Hail, Hail came on while I was driving the other day and I thought to myself, "Man, I really tend to forget how great some of the lines in this song are," specifically in reference to these two.

I find it too weird that he's refering to himself in third person  He does it on a different song too, In My Tree maybe? Though that bridge in mostly undecipherable.
I'm certain he doesn't do it on In My Tree. That's just fans taking an undecipherable bit and making up really stupid words.

Eeeeehhheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee does sound close to eeeeeeddddiiiiieeee though.

You're probably right. I wonder what the lyrics are. I'm leaning towards there not being any words and he's just making noises.

On the topic of 'what the hell is he saying?' Anyone know what he's saying on the outro to I got shit? I think its only on live versions. Something about vows

I always liked how in Education he follows up "I'm questioning my own equation" with "Is my own equation relevant somehow?" The second line makes the first one seem so much stronger and adds another dimension to the lyrics.

These may be iconic, but still so good:

I wonder bout his insides...
Its like his thoughts are too big for his size

Until a quarter-to-ten... I saw the strain creep in...

Listening to these lyrics makes me self-reflect - has all I once liked about myself been put up on the rack, only to fleetingly show up and leave again. Have I become thin and hollowed out, spiritually unkept.

These meant even more knowing that Ed was writing autobiographically: "The song "Off He Goes" is really about me being a shit friend. I'll show up and everything's great and then all of the sudden I'm outta there". (http://www.fivehorizons.com/archive/art ... n801.shtml)

Agency.
While a Western guitar motif lost on the swings drum bass fusion, get your own thoughts into the subconscious often forgotten. "Pendulum" is a sweeping soul from the ballast.

Looks like he came up with three rhyming words first and then clumsily wrote the other lyrics around them.

yeah, sad is a great song, but for the music and the atmosphere. There's little in sad I'd point to as an exercise in fantastic lyric writing

these may be iconic, but some of my favorites anyway.

Large fingers pushing paint
your God and you've got big hands
the challenges you give man

Hold tight the ring
The sea will rise
Please stand by the shore
I will be
I will be there once more

Pretty much all of Corduroy... especially the Non-Iconic/Underrated lines.

Ed used to be masterful in his placement of "Fuck".

That big "FUCK" is the best thing about the Lightning Bolt live version.

I've never thought Eddie cursed particularly well, outside of the fuck you in not for you. Although it's never been that important a part of the writing

I'm with Stip on this one. I did like the "WHAT THE FUCK?!" in the early live versions of 1/2 Full. But that's worn out now, too.
