Garbage isn't remotely close to nu metal though. Post grunge? Maybe on that first record, they seem like more straight ahead alternative rock though.

I haven't looked at who's all included so I got my hopes up.

Garbage was just a vaguely gothy pop band

Shirley Manson was a fantastic recurring guest on Craig Ferguson's short lived radio program.

I'm thankful for Jammer's insight during this tournament.
I'm certain I'm the only poster who actually grew up listening to nu-metal here. Was a big part of middle school for me. Skateboarding, wasting my mom's money on Linkin Park and Disturbed CDs, drinking Mountain Dew and Mountain Dew derivatives, good times?
I didn't listen to it myself but there was a time when my friends seemed to listen to nothing but, so I heard it constantly. I was about 15-20 when the stuff was really flourishing. I just didn't identify with it at all, and really hated the vocals in it.

"Stupid Girl" is all kinds of awful. I remember it getting radio play right around the time that I decided that most radio was crap.

"Toxicity" is another one of those songs from this tournament that is legitimately enjoyable, not just in comparison to other nu metal or post-grunge. So, it's really a no-brainer.

The only SOAD i can listen to these days is the debut record. Even still, Toxicity is a no brainer in this matchup.

How was Rivers Cuomo involved in Stupid Girl? This shit is baffling. Is the singer posing as some sort of savior, for what? What is this song about? Bashing girls for being stupid? Maybe it has a deep meaning but I don't care because the song hurts my ears and brain.

Toxicity is, as everyone seems to agree, a pretty great song.
