I kind of want MP3s of all Backspacer to be honest, but I know it's a bit controversial to mention that around here, especially about Backspacer.Farmer John wrote:And then someone slow it down 300% and let's listen to that.
By the way, PJ live might not make these songs better but slowing them down certainly does. I slowed MYM down to 0.5% the other day and it was awesome.

Re: Song of the Moment: The Fixer
okay, I LAL'd
What works: the whip crack beginning. The warm and fuzzy guitar tones. The groovy riff. The little parts mike plays to color the song in (especially the shoulder shrugging sound in the second verse). I really like how Eddie sounds in here--slightly strained and winded. It makes the song feel earned instead of some cheesy anthem from someone who's never lost enough to need to fight to get it back again. I am a big fan of the swirling optimistic bridge. The way they come out of the bridge. Basically everything matt and jeff are doing.
This song reveals a lot with headphones
I like the lyrics. Some are clever, the vocal melody links them all together nicely, and the whole thing is so playful that you can get away with lyrics like 'i wanna put a little fixin' on it' which, because the song is what it is, I actually enjoy.
What doesn't work: The song needs another verse coming out of the bridge. The overly processed uh huh huh's shouldn't be there. They make a rotten first impression.
Up in the air: I don't mind the tinkly piano, but it's not necessary and I can see why people wouldn't care for it. Same thing with the yeah yeah yeahs
This is a 4.5 star song for me. I loved it the moment I first heard it and love it just as much 4 years later.

Re: Song of the Moment: The Fixer
If it weren't for the cheesy guitar tones and uh huh uh huh's this song could've been killer. It's slightly better live I guess. Give me some better guitar tones and obliterate my memory of the video and I'd give it a 4. As is... 3 at best.

Re: Song of the Moment: The Fixer
I've listened to the 10-7-09 version quite a few times the past week or so (due it being on my tournament playlist), and I might have to revise my claim that there is no Pearl Jam song where I'd rather listen to a live version than the studio version. With the guitar tones noticeably nastier and Mike more or less drowning Boom out, I found myself enjoying this song in a way I never have before.

Re: Song of the Moment: The Fixer
this is a good song. problem is, it doesn't fit the idea of what PJ is that most of us have. i was a bit shocked when i first heard it but it growed on me (unlike You Are which was also a departure or an experiment that gloriously failed at being a good song imo). there's a lot to like (the intro's riff, the transitions, Matt's drumming, Ed's performance) and to dislike (the cheesiness of the verses' riff, the lyrics, the good bits that are left unexploited) but in the end i think that this is much better than many songs of theirs. had it not been played at almost every single show since it's première, had it not been the lead single (with a video that screams PHONY), had it not been dissected to no end we would have enjoyed it a lot more for what it is i.e. a cool rock song with throwbacks to Huey Lewis and The News
