Yeah, yelling at someone until they leave a restaurant is the same as shooting them.

The moral righteousness which would convince someone to break the social norms around shouting at someone they don't know in a restaurant because of their job doesn't seem that different to that which would also drive them to physically hurt them, it's just a matter of degree of exactly how nuts they are.

You could apply this logic to virtually every situation.

I do understand the source of worry. Every day lately we get new stories about people screaming at (perceived) immigrants, or hungrily trying to intimidate or harm people of color. And sometimes those stories do feature physical violence. So there is a real and demonstrated path to be wary of.

But that path is between the willingness to make threats of physical violence for intimidation purposes and the willingness to act on those threats. There absolutely is a step in between calmly telling an official that you oppose their actions and thinking it’s ok to scream in an “others” face, and there is no evidence that a desire to communicate with those in power must lead down a road to the screaming and threatening.

There is, however, plenty of evidence that the normalizing of screaming at and intimidating an other can lead to violence, and so I’m baffled at how anyone viewing the world through an untinted lens could see a mother speaking to AND THEN LEAVING an official to their meal as one tenth the warning sign than an arena of people shrieking “fake news” and using language that lumps all immigrants in with gang members is.

Either way, having not gotten any kind of demonstrable denuclearization deal out of them, and having misled people about it back home, I have zero doubt that he could be pulled right back into war pose by NK just continuing to be NK. And every Republican who has said “he says he got a deal, let’s give it a chance,“ will go along with him blaming Kim for failing to live up to a promise that was never even made.
