I think they've outright stated it's set before the movie, if not concurrent with the first bit. Or at least concurrent up to the "Where's Hawkeye and Ant-Man?" and they give that bit about them laying low due to the Accords and Banner says, "Wait, we have an Ant-Man and a Spider-Man?"

*laughter from the audience so you miss the next two or three lines of dialogue*

I'm going to go and ask for one of those deaf people glasses next time so I can see the subtitles.

It would be funny if Wasp got ashed at the end.

Well this sounds promising....
Over the past couple of years, Marvel Studios has ridden the crest of an incredible wave, culminating in the 2018 one-two punch of Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity War. A drop-off was perhaps inevitable but I doubt anyone expected it to be this precipitous. Ant-Man and the Wasp offers nothing close to what we have come to expect from entries into the MCU. Plodding, repetitive, replete with technobabble nonsense and lifeless action, this is easily the worst-written of any of the 20 MCU offerings and may be the worst all-around film featuring a Marvel superhero since Sony rebooted Spider-Man.

Mr. Sunday Movies didn't LOVE it either.

Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

not counting infinity war one of the female supporting characters was my favorite part of each MCU movie (though wasp may not count since she had co-billing)

Worse than Dr Strange? Think I'll wait for this one to come out on Blu-ray before watching it then

agreed. i like that they tell their own story and are in their "own" world. the last 20 minutes and the mid credit scene are the only things that really reference the overall story of the avengers

Spoiler: show
The film's main plot involves getting The Wasp's mom (Michelle Pfeiffer) out of the Quantum Realm, where she's been trapped for 30 years. They do of course get her out, and in the mid credits scene they send Ant Man into the Quantum Realm. He is communicating with Hank Pym while in there, and all of a sudden Hank stops responding. Cut to the rooftop where they sent him in there, and Hank, Janet (Pfeiffer), and The Wasp all turn to ash.
