so... who are you into these days?

Other than Pearl Jam, who else is there?

After watching Singles last weekend we went on a 90's binge at our house (some of it good, some of it bad) and it made me revisit a couple of bands with a playlist that has been on repeat all week:

Weezer - Pinkerton is pretty much a perfect album, but Blue and Green are also classics.
Alice in Chains - I never realized how much Dirt was a self fulfilling prophecy for Staley
Soul Asylum - a couple of those albums got a lot of airplay for me when they came out
Gin Blossoms - Every song sounds vaguely the same, but it's catchy as hell
Rob Zombie - Hellbilly #1 and Sinister Urge have always been guilty pleasures that are now back in rotation

I don't really know those bottom three albums, but those top two are definitely two of the best from the 90's.

Same as any other days: The Mynabirds, Tom Waits, Talking Heads, Neutral Milk Hotel. And then Pearl Jam in between.

I'm glad to hear you're spinning those Mynabirds, 4/5. I didn't know you were a fan.

There's no quantifiable way for me to list what I've listened to most recently, since only a small amount of my music is actually on the computer, so I'll just go with my nearest and dearest favorites.

A Silver Mt. Zion
Oceansize
Do Make Say think
Godspeed You! Black Emperor
Tortoise

...And I guess here's a second list that focuses more on solo-ish artists, 'cause I can't contain it to just five:

Sandro Perri & associated projects
Carla Bozulich & associated projects
Eric Chenaux & associated projects
Vic Chesnutt
Colin Stetson

Edit: Oops, I meant to also add that Pearl Jam floats in and out of this bunch. They've been kind of "in" lately because of all the new album stuff.

Love New Miserable Experience, great album - listen to it every once in a while. Never did like Hey Jealousy though - that one is deleted off of my iPod.

Wow, great thread!

For me, probably not a lot of difference than ever really... Always exploring though:

Opeth: Anything and everything. Devouring vinyl of all their stuff currently!
Steven Wilson: Anything/Everything! Recently been revisitng Insurgentes and Grace...
Dead Can Dance: Revisiting their multi-disc rarities set (unreleased stuff)
Pink Floyd: Early stuff!
Neil Young: EVERYTHING!!! And by everything, I mean that I have a lot of his stuff! :)
Russian Circles: KILLER band. Probably my favorite of recent bands!
Sigur Rós: Still really new to their stuff, but I am uncovering the layers...
Karnivool: No, not quite on Tool or Porcupine Tree's level, but pretty good!!

Many others I'm not remembering right now...

And I'm going to give two special shout-outs to Soul Asylum for 'Let Your Dim Light Shine' and The Mats' 'Don't Tell A Soul'... Next up is going way back to Husker Du! Now that was a band! These three made up the holy triumverant back in the day! ;)

I really can't get enough of the three Bat for Lashes records. She's like my new Bjork.

I find myself listening primarily to Bob Mould/Sugar, The Kinks '67 - '76, Supergrass, Mark Lanegan and various ambient keyboard drone records with titles like "Binaural Beats Subliminal Systems - Accepting Change or Aggression Management or Hair Growth and Fullness For Women". I find they help me sleep. I'm still waiting for my overall demeanor to improve and my hair to grow back though.

Didn't we used to have a generic thread called "What are you listening to?" Was that all the way on old RM? Or am I confusing it with threads in A&E?

Anyways, I can't get enough of Kurt Vile lately. I've had "Wakin on a Pretty Daze" on my turntable for days, and I just listen to some sides of it over and over again.
