Phoebe was pretty much allowed ad lib a lot of it and asked could she play it very abritish humour and they said go for it.

Sure she was meant to be humorous, and they were definitely playing with the idea of droids as slaves, but I dont think she was meant to be a total farce.

Or maybe she's a remnant of the original script/movie that the first directors made (where she was supposed to be a satirical character) that now doesn't work in the context of the new movie. I could see the producers getting cold feet about her being a joke of a character and kinda (in their minds) retconning her into something less insulting. They failed of course. She stands out like a sore thumb. I don't know how you put that character in the movie and then expect her death to be anything less than funny. People were clapping when Lando tried to pick her up.

What a mess.

But I really want to see the original cut of this movie now. I think I'm starting to see why they were really fired.
