The Civil Wars
They split up, they're back together, wait no they're not. Who knows? Who cares?
I could listen to their music all day.
Who else could do a totally interesting cover of Billie Jean?

Re: The Civil Wars
But, no, yeah, I love The Civil Wars. Very excited for album #2. Even if it is the last one.

Wait, I was talking about the second album on a thread just the other day. I put the stream up there. Did we start this one without looking for the other one?

Re: The Civil Wars
I couldn't find another dedicated Civil Wars thread. Looks like you put the stream up in the Albums of 2013 thread.

I didn't think anything from the new album stood out, sadly.

I really love that opening track. Just listened to it. And that Oh Henry thing is pretty sweet, too. Yeah, I'm a sucker for their schtick. I think I'm gonna buy that vinyl bundle on their website.

Re: The Civil Wars
One of the most enjoyable things about the first album was the harmonising, and the new one has much less of the guy's voice to undercut the sweetness of the woman's.

Re: The Civil Wars
Their second album is owning me right now. I finally got it Thursday and I can't stop spinning it. What a fantastic record. I might like it more (initially at least) than the first record.

Re: The Civil Wars
The "a side" of this album is really great and IMHO better than first album. I am shocked how much better they sound with a bit of fuzzy guitar added in, but I guess that's what happens when you get the right producer on board.durdencommatyler wrote:Their second album is owning me right now. I haven't listened in a while but I seem to remember liking the second one better. More variation.

Re: The Civil Wars
After having a ton of time with both, yes, I think I can safely say that I like the second album more. Pound for pound. There are things I like more about the debut. But The One That Got Away, I Had Me A Girl, Eaves Drop, Devil's Backbone and Oh Henry put this thing above. I like all of those more than any single song on Barton Hallow.

The first six on the second album are an absolute knock-out, the back half feels like stuff jumbled together to get to 12 tracks. I can't help but think if the inter-band conflict wasn't so bad, this could have been a classic record in the genre.

Re: The Civil Wars
Totally agree. Except that I think Oh Henry is one of the strongest tracks on the thing, and it's a on the second half. Perhaps it's the exception that proves the rule.broken iris wrote:durdencommatyler wrote:After having a ton of time with both, yes, I think I can safely say that I like the second album more.
