Before work or bust. I find myself caving and going for a beer with buddies instead of working out if I leave it for after work.

This makes sense. I've always been able to bench more than I can pull

Shit, if I was up at 3:30 I wouldn't have the energy in the afternoon either.

yes im in bed by 8, but if i said id lift at home or ill do it in the afternoon then its far to easy to skip it and say ill catch up tomorrow. at 330 when that alarm goes off im pissed enough that i cant go back to sleep so i go workout so my anger isnt for naught

I was just messing with you. Before I switched jobs I was up at 4:30 to make room for an hour-long workout. I need to find that time again once I get more set here.

its a lot easier as there are usually only other 4 people doing weights at that time and another 5 doing cardio. 45 minutes later people shuffle in and its gets more crowded but in that time everyone is doing a different body part so there is no overlap or waiting for anything. it sucks and is great at the same time

I did a Crossfit WOD called DT on Sunday. First time doing anything like that in several years. I modified it to make it slightly lighter (135 instead of 155) and it still destroyed me. I did it in 29:49 which is embarrassing. A "good" time is like 8 minutes lol.

DT
5 rounds of
12 Deadlifts (155 pounds)
9 Hang cleans (155 pounds)
6 Push Jerks (155 pounds)

I used 135. The deads were easy, the cleans and jerks weren't bad but I wouldn't call them easy. I had to break the cleans up into two sets (but yesterday I tried and successfully did an unbroken set of 135x9 so that's good). The biggest thing was that I had to rest between every single thing. I'd finish the deads and need to rest. I'd do half the cleans and more rest. Finish the cleans even more rest. Finish the jerks more rest.

I just couldn't catch my breath. Moving the weight wasn't that tough but man I was dying.

I'm going to do it again tomorrow, hoping to shave a couple mins. I'm cautiously optimistic that I should rapidly improve as I get more used to the workload and get my cardio up.

Don't worry. I'm not doing Crossfit. I'm doing a single Crossfit workout that's based around 3 intelligent exercises and the volume isn't so high that it's absurd.

I gotta do cardio and I love barbells, so what better way to do cardio a couple times a week than with barbells.

They are. I'm taking a bit of a hiatus from them to focus on my squat right now. I've focused on deads to the detriment of my squat for too long. Hopefully there's some transfer from a hopefully rejuvenated squat to dead when I come back to deads.
