Change is really beautiful.
Bleed is a career low for Max Cavalera.

Change is probably my favorite song in this tournment. I think it's fantastic.

Change by a million. When I said "Jumpdafuckup" was the lowest point of Max's career I may have forgotten about "Bleed". Fred Durst is even worse than in Limp Bizkit in this.

I was totally prepared to vote for Bleed simply because the Deftones are just plowing through this tournament, and i do genuinely like Bleed despite the big Durst turd in it...but man Change really is a fucking incredible tune.

Re: R1: Change vs. Bleed
Another easy vote in this match.
"Change" was the song that introduced me to Deftones and it still sounds like a band that's comfortable sliding between any conventional notions of style or form. I love the eerie wailing in the background of the verses and the way Chino whispers with such intensity. Those parts are contrasted against the explosive choruses and outro for some great tension throughout.
"Bleed" has some cool parts when the vocalists aren't around, like the guitar tapping in the intro and whatever's going on around the breakdown. But the screaming vocals do nothing for me, and Fred Durst's parts do less than that, so on balance it becomes a lot less interesting.
"Change" for the win.

Re: R1: Change vs. Bleed
Musically, "Change" doesn't really have a lot going on, and that whisper-singing thing that Chino does in the verses is a device that almost never works for me -- a little too close to the scary-effects trick bag that makes so much of this music feel like parody. But there's something about "Change" that sucks me into it -- maybe it's the way the song just falls into that wide open chorus, or maybe that haunting drone effect hovering over the verses, or maybe it's that there really does seem to be some authentic sense of struggle and torment in the singing. Whatever it is, it's a song that's more than the sum of its parts.
"Bleed" isn't my thing at all. Easy vote for Deftones.

this tournament generally - and the deftones specifically - inspire in me an almost torturous amount of nostalgia

Clearly a blowout here. I'm actually surprised that this isn't a shutout. This match up feels as unbalanced as they come.
