Who were they even bidding against? I don't get this contract unless it is for trading purposes later on.

My only guess is they could have potentially lost Irving, Roozier and Smart next summer and they are nervous.

Which Mavs player is going to smash this new female coach on the staff? My money is on JJ Barea.

Yeah...I thought 8-10 mil a year was more in line with the market but what's a couple extra million a year of someone else's money. I don't think it will prevent them from keeping anyone or making moves.

He's way more valuable to the Celtics than anyone else. 13 mil from the Kings would be an overpay because he would suck. Boston giving him 13 is fine because he helps them win games somehow.

I think both Lowe and Simmons have gone on about how this sort of contract would help them be able to make trades since right now their roster is basically guys on either rookie deals or max deals.

Yeah they need bigger contracts if they want to make a trade and not give up one of their Max guys so I guess it makes sense. Just hate when teams bid against themselves but they know the cap stuff way better than me.

the Hawks have traded Dennis Schroder to OKC for the right to pay Melo almost 28 something million dollars to go away.

the 6ers get Mike Muscala who is surely the star player they were looking to add this offseason.

Race to the bottom of the East!

Hey, this was a pretty good year for the Celtics to have him come up as an RFA. Tyler Johnson was an RFA in the Silly Season that was 2016 and now the Heat are stuck paying him $19.3 million each the next two seasons. For reference, Klay Thompson is going to make $19.0 million this season.

Nope. He’s still a guy you love to have on your team, it’s just crippling when you’re paying him three times what he should be getting.
He plays super tough but because of that it feels like as soon as he’s on the brink of taking a step he gets banged up and misses 3 or 4 games. And Miami’s roster is so deep it’s easy to lose minutes real fast.

For whatever reason, Smart is more valuable to the Celts, so I'm fine at 13 mil. I'm happy they kept him. Every team needs a guy like him in that he provides intangibles that uniquely fit his team. I hate when he shoots, but they flat out win when he plays. It is what it is.

What a weird NBA offseason

Boogie to the Warriors
George stays put
Toronto gets Kahwi
some weird pickups by the Lakers after LeBron
if you told me right now that Drummond shaved his shoulders, I probably would believe you

Smart is like a playmaking Tony Allen.

30 million a year is about right for expecting someone to live in Cleveland.
