Re: The Wire, Deadwood, Sopranos and West Wing
i did not know this
Remember the crushing death of President Bartlet’s Secretary, Mrs. Landingham? It was so upsetting that, in real life, a San Francisco assemblyman, Kevin Shelley, adjourned a session of the California Congress to grieve for her, calling Landingham a “great American” whose “contributions to the nation were too numerous to count.” Shelley resigned from his position in 2005 under a cloud of scandal.

I'll just take this opportunity to say that I recently rewatched both Breaking Bad and The Sopranos and I am more convinced than ever of the latter's dominance. What a show.

Absolutely. Breaking Bad has a few great moments and two phenomenal leads, but there are a LOT of holes. Nearly the entire supporting cast, in terms of acting and actual characters, is relatively weak. Entire half-seasons and lots of episodes are wasted on unimportant storylines that add nothing to the endgame. And the series ending is very weak. I enjoyed it while it was on, but it doesn't hold up as well on repeat viewings. Sopranos, The Wire, and Mad Men all blow it out of the water. Deep casts where few to no weaknesses stand out, even the most out-of-left-field episodes feel worth it. Really just more complete worlds.theplatypus wrote:I'll just take this opportunity to say that I recently rewatched both Breaking Bad and The Sopranos and I am more convinced than ever of the latter's dominance. Finally fucking watching the Sopranos.
Its embarrassing its taken my this long to watch the show. Few episodes into Season 2.
Man, some of the shit is dated (clothing, hair, set decorations, and even the way it is filmed) but what a great show so far. Obviously.

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

I feel similarly, though I still really like the theory Walter White died in the cabin in New Hampshire. The finale was just a fever dream. The Argonaut wrote:Absolutely. As of now i dont see how this will surpass Breaking Bad for me. I feel opposite from a few of you it seems. Though, admittedly, im very early into the show.
I will say that the supporting characters in Sopranos are all fantastic.
