Re: Atlanta Braves
It was 6-2 NY last saw so a 7-6 win was a surprise to me this morning.

It’s the 3rd walkoff against the Mets this year I think.Biff Pocoroba wrote:It was 6-2 NY last saw so a 7-6 win was a surprise to me this morning.

Nice to see the bats wake up last night; it's been a sluggish stretch of late.

Charlie Culberson is killing it.Biff Pocoroba wrote:Nice to see the bats wake up last night; it's been a sluggish stretch of late.
and then Julio Teheran gave up 7 runs today.....
This team isn't making the playoffs without bringing in at least one quality starter.

Re: Atlanta Braves
13-9 during a stretch of 22 games in 20 days. Due to make ups they only have two off days the rest of the season but at least the September call ups are only a few days away. Who would have thought they would have the second best record in the NL at this point? Or that Gausman would be such a valuable pick up? The starting pitching has gotten more consistent and a little deeper of late, which of course helps the bullpen.
It's nice to be going into September paying attention to baseball again.

I guess today's game balances out that bad loss in the Boston series finale.

Definitely helps that the Phillies haven’t been playing well. The bullpen has still been poor, but the defense over the weekend was fun to watch. Nice to see Ender come through with the 3 run HR yesterday.Biff Pocoroba wrote:I guess today's game balances out that bad loss in the Boston series finale.

Not bad for a team I thought might finish .500. I don't think they have the horses to do much in the postseason but they've had a successful year and the arrow is certainly pointing up.

Re: Atlanta Braves
It was a fun and an overachieving year! 2019 was supposed to be our return. Now we are already attractive in the free agent market. There are rumors they will make an offer to Machado (3B) and Harper with the hopes of signing one of them. I don't think they will offer enough years or $$$, but damn, if they sign Machado, that means we would probably get Realmuto (via Austin Riley trade) too. We'll need to replace Markakis, sign middle relief, and given the front office, a new third basemen.

I doubt they get Machado but Harper is a pretty good option for RF.CopperTom wrote:It was a fun and an overachieving year! 2019 was supposed to be our return. I’d like to see them bring in 2 top of the rotation starters too.
It was a fun season, hopefully we’re going to start spending now.
Realmuto would be great, I think Flowers is signed already, is Realmuto a good enough framer for Alex Anthopolis?
Nice to be in these rumors again for top players.

Re: Atlanta Braves
I don't think we'll sign a starter (outside of a Anibal Sanchez type maybe). We have 7 starters for 5 spots as is. I've read Fried will be converted to a reliever, but I don't know if true. I'm content with Folty, Newcomb, Gausman, Sorotka and Tehran. Touki needs more time at AAA anyway.Electromatic wrote:I doubt they get Machado but Harper is a pretty good option for RF.CopperTom wrote:It was a fun and an overachieving year! 2019 was supposed to be our return. Yes, AA likes Realmuto. Actually, I've heard he loves him. A few sources are reporting signing Yasmani Grandal will be a priority, though.
I also think we need a competent 4th outfielder desperately. Adam Duvall was a disaster both offensively and defensively.
Also reading we'll pursue a closer not named Kimbrel.

As a Braves fan I love the Acuna move; good to see them make a commitment to one of the best young players in the game.

Albies signed long term to a ridicously club friendly 7 year, $35 million contract.

Swept at home by the Diamondbacks. 9-9 through 18 games, nothing to indicate why they would win more than 81 right now, but that's pretty much been the case since last October. They've all but said publicly that they aren't really trying to win this year so, it is what it is.
