I'd enjoy some of the suggestions made so far but I think the Britpop or pop-punk tournaments might be more fun just for the sake of participation.
Totally agree. The nu metal tournament has been the most enjoyable of any of these we've ever done by a long shot (well done LV) and I'm sure the variety of songs/artists has contributed to that.

I was thinking pop-punk / ska-punk / emo. Starting with the 94 punk explosion (Offspring, Green Day, Rancid), going through the mid-late-90s ska-punk boom (Less than Jake, Save Ferris) and ending in 2005 with the first wave of "emo" pop-punk (My Chemical Romance, Brand New, Fall Out Boy). It'll be terrible!

As long as it has some Saves the Day and The Get Up Kids, I'm on board.

I don't know any of their songs. Which would qualify? They need to be somewhat notable

Love Tom Waits but a Tom Waits tournament sounds a bit boring right now

I have no idea what was actually popular in the emo/pop punk genre of the early aughts. But me and my friends were all over these two bands.

Just Google “most popular songs by [band]”. Hugely helpful in the Nu tournament.
