We've discussed this. My response is it is uncharacteristic of Luke to even consider killing Ben in cold blood to begin with and we need an explanation for how he got that way.dimejinky99 wrote:tree_ wrote:Haha I never said I wanted Luke to be a superhero. Yet your being held hostage by your demand that Luke be a superhero and can’t have changed. In 30 years.

Again. The explanation is in the movie. Three different times. And then an explanation from Luke to Rey about why it happened how it happened and how shit he felt for letting Leia and han and Ben down.

Guys, i dont think Tree is trolling. He is talking about what he dislikes about the movie. He might be a little over the top with it, but thats fine he can have that opinion...if you think you have already talked about it, dont participate. Other poster will o not. But he is explaining why he doesnt like the movie.
I dont agree with him in terms on the movie not being good. TLJ might be the best SW since the first three for sure.

That’s a good point. We know a lot about Luke from before, and it’s a totally different character we meet in TLJ.tree_ wrote:We've discussed this. I should say there are some things about the movie that are objectively bad. Saying the movie as a whole is objectively bad is dumb, I agree. You know about as much about Luke in these films as I do about baseball. Which is to say nothing. At all.
You were t aware a few pages back that he nearly fell to the dark side into the emperors hands and by his design.
You basically know Fuck all about him and Star Wars or you’re playing a troll day.
I’m betting the later.
I wonder about what kind of sad bastard does that. Is your life that shit? Really?
If I went into rm’s baseball thread and started this kinda shot you’re at how long do you think I’d last? Clearly knowing nothing and just being an idiot?
Have you really nothing else to do?

I already responded to your comment about him nearly falling to the dark side. This shows he has proven to be a good person by rising above an unimaginably extreme test of character. From this evidence, what we know about Luke is good prevails in him when tested to the extreme and he isn't the kind of person to consider killing his nephew in cold blood. If there are events in the last 30 years leading up to that moment, it'd be helpful for the audience to have this explained to them. Luke is an iconic, beloved character. We deserve to know why he's changed. If that's in the next movie, so be it. As of now, it doesn't make sense.

I really like Luke´s arc in this movie, but i think that he needed to be in the third one. It would have closed his arc for this trilogy in a better way.

These aren't luke, leia's, or Han's movies. Those already happened. They are there to serve the new characters of which many of you dont like. So i get the internal struggle hereVinylGuy wrote:I really like Luke´s arc in this movie, but i think that he needed to be in the third one. Re: Star Wars: Episode VIII: The Last Jedi
I liked the potential of the new characters in TFA but they are treated so poorly in this movie. How does Rey even know how to swim? Almost everything is too easy for her. It seems her only real struggle is not knowing who her parents are. Finn rejoices at needlessly trashing a casino in which innocent people may have been harmed and slaves will probably be forced to clean up. He's too stupid to realize that. Poe is still kinda cool, I guess. We all know Rose is one of the worst characters of all time.Strat wrote:These aren't luke, leia's, or Han's movies. Those already happened. I never said I wanted him to be a hero. You guys keep assuming that. I actually thought it'd be interesting to see him evil. It just needs to be appropriately explained.Strat wrote:He'll be in it. Let's try to keep the name calling to a minimum here and keep it civilized discussion. Just because you like or don't like the movie doesn't make you an idiot or whatever. Taking offense to the fact that someone has the opposite view as you about the movie is pretty lame.
I've seen all things Star Wars, since the beginning, read a lot of Canon, etc. and I hate this movie. But sometimes I hate coming in here because I feel like I'm an asshole for not liking it

Why do you hate this movie, Ruddock? Is it strictly preference, do you think? Or was it poorly executed?E.H. Fair points. Ask this guy to at least get a grasp on basic facts within the trilogy and at least a bare grasp of the story and we can then have a great conversation once he does.
