maybe there's hope for it. after all, they did take an existing ukulele song and turn it into something interesting once before.

yet bob was no where to be found then.
Betterman has already been mentioned as a rehash that worked pretty well. I'm also in the minority that likes Gone. I don't really see how they could fuck up SBM, to be honest. And I liked SOS. So whatever, I'm intrigued.
Yeah, of all the things to be upset/worried/disillusioned about, SBM is way low on my list. I'm excited to hear a full band version of it (if it's on the album).

Maybe I'm crazy, but didn't a lot of critics of Uke Songs say they wanted to hear all of them as full band songs back when that album dropped? Careful what you wish for, I guess...
Plenty of them might work as PJ songs. I don't know. But I just find it funny that people would complain about PJ making songs out of a bunch of what Ed probably thought of as sketches written at home anyway, that he was talked into releasing.
And there is always the possibility that it was a pj song first that ed used for uke songs

A real possibility.

I think people are reacting to the fact that, 4 years after Backspacer, they're putting out a new version of a song we've already heard. This gives the impression that they're running low on creativity and are turning to cannibalizing their solo work because of a lack of inspiration.

I pointed out "Betterman" as an example of a rehash that worked, but I think there's a difference in that Vitalogy only came out a year after Vs. There's less built-up expectation.

I totally get that, and its the only thing i don't like about the idea of the reworked song, but if its on there then ill hope its good. and if its a song they started working on in the first batch of lightning bolt songs a couple of years ago, then its still a new pj song that ed decided to use on his own first.

I definitely had that thought, especially after reading that they stopped writing for a year and a half cause 'the songs weren't there' or something. But who knows, maybe its that good that it was never off the table.

I'd like to think that it was left alone for a while because the songs weren't good enough and they were originally making Backspacer 2 and didn't want that. I don't know, it might be wishful thinking but I don't mind that they rethought the writing. It would be easy enough for anyone to write another Backspacer, it was hardly hugely inspired. I'm hoping they wanted more this time.

Yeah I'm not worried that they stopped and started, it makes me more curious actually. It's just that my first thought was 'all that writing and there's still an uke song on there :-? ' its definitely irrational lol.

What iiiis interesting is that I was skimming through the old 10th album thread in the archives and there's a few quotes from stone and Jeff maybe talking about making this album different to backspacer and possibley more experimental BUT if I read correctly they were all from before the break in recording.

And theeenn we get those quotes from stone more recently saying 'it sounds like pearl jam' so....uh.... [/conclusion jumping]

three things

1. In a post Love Boat Captain/Johnny Guitar era any song title has to be taken seriously. And I am very much looking forward to finding out what the hell 'where's my sponge' might be.

2 We're Outta Here sounds more like it will be a general social commentary in the DTE vein than MFC to me. My predicition

3. Sleeping By Myself is a wonderful song that deserves more than a ukelee. I am thrilled to see it end up on a record. Maybe it'll be worse, but I'd like to see them try. Look at what happened to Can't Keep

Agree. They have a long history of using old songs or demos in another albums..Parting Ways and Brain of j are two songs that comes to mind, Betterman for sure too.
It would be hilarious if we get a solo acoustic Ed tune though.

Mike played slide guitar on FD live I think. I'd really like to see some slide guitar on SBM.

Maybe that's just stone being bitchy cause ed shit on one of his songs. Or he was just being coy. Or maybe the album was going to be a sideways arty jam before....

The first sessions were back in 2011, weren't they? Around the time Olé was released? I thought Stone's reference to it being kind of "experimental" were nearer to the resumed sessions in 2012.

I hope so. I can't hear much experimentation going on in MYM, but I like it so whatever.

I thought they only resumed recording this year? That quote from mike says we got together 4 months ago. I think. Maybe I'm misremembering.
