So, are you saying CGI is better than practical effects? You're full of shit, you bastard!Sgt. Crackpot wrote:Yep, original release TPM yoda was a puppet. For the 2011 re-release, Lucas jizzed on it in CGI.
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

I remember finding those and formatting them to a photo dimension so I could print them out and make little Star Wars murals.

Re: Star Wars: The Prequels
Went to the symphony last weekend for a John Williams retrospective concert.
Seeing Duel of the Fates performed live was so incredibly exhilarating. I think it might be his best piece of film music. They also did Across the Stars which was wonderful, despite being from Attack of the Clones.
Too bad about all the cutaways to Anakin & his fucking stupid-ass dialogue in the film during DotF..

I think a lot of the ideas are just plain wrong / off in the prequels. Forget the execution, that's bad too, but there are so many missed opportunities and added things that made no sense.stip wrote:Interesting. In defense of the prequels I don't have many issues with the ideas present (with the exception of the chosen one/balance in the force idea, which I hate). It's usually an execution thing for me. I haven't gone back to them in the context of TLJ though
That droid factory scene is terrible. I actually do like some of the Clone / Jedi battle scenes though. Those intense close-ups with lots of dust / smoke look really cool.Anders wrote:I like the prequels, but I really wish I could change some things about them. I love what George tried to do to advance technology but it would have been better with less immersive green screen.

Yep. The droid factory is probably the flat worst in the entire trilogy. It's like the only reason it's in there is the "Anakin loses a hand" fake out joke. You could cut the entire sequence from the movie and nothing changes.darth_vedder wrote:I think a lot of the ideas are just plain wrong / off in the prequels. Re: Star Wars: The Prequels
I think I've done this before, but I'm gonna list things I didn't like about the prequels...
1. Two actors for Anakin. They should have just started him out around 20ish, making him more in his 50's in the OT. Related, the weird age gap between Anakin and Padme.
2. Overdone CGI. I think everyone pretty much feels this way.
3. Not making Owen as Anakin's actual brother, and getting pissed that Anakin followed Obi Wan on some damn fool idealistic crusade.
4. Not showing more of the rebellion forming (deleted scene in ROTS).
5. No real info or idea on the Vader suit. Did the Emperor just have them laying around in a closet or warehouse?
6. Jar Jar Binks. That character had no business ever showing up i the movies.
7. Flying R2 D2
8. Mace Windu. Samuel Jackson seemed way underused / used incorrectly. What a boring character for a cool actor.
9. Anakin making C3PO. That was just dumb.
10. The lack of Clone Wars. The cartoon had to do what the movie didn't / couldn't.
11. The lack of meaningful character building between Obi-Wan and Anakin.
12. Obi-Wan not changing his name to Ben before Luke was born. (this one is very minor).
13. Padme dying from a broken heart. She should have faked her death or something and died when Leia was a small child, which would then tie in with what Leia says in ROTJ.
14. Lack of Palpatine's origin. He is the main thing in the prequels, the whole reason for the OT, he should have had more story.
15. Yoda fighting. "Wars not make one great" unless you can turn into Sonic the Hedgehog.
16. Midichlorians. God, just awful!
There are more, but I need to hop on a call. What does RM hate? Let me feel your hate

The biggest flaw of the prequels is the main point of the trilogy was not portrayed in a compelling way (Anakin falling to the dark side).

THAt scene is horrific and yet is somehow repeated in at least one clone wars episode as far as I remember

This still baffles me. Lucasfilm just stole it without consent. And got sued.

That isn't nearly a perfect recreation. More like they rhyme.

upon further searching, it seems like nothing came of it. I don't think they even filed a lawsuit.

Settled without going to court. Some money and weird merchandise deal it seems LFL wanted it sorted quickly and quietly so as not to tarnish the brand and their ‘creativity’ I guess
