He represents how many older, middle class white guys see themselves: simultaneously a victim of circumstance and an intellectually superior closet bad-ass capable of anything. I rarely root for him, but on several levels I can identify with him more than any of the other characters in the show.

Sure, but I think that's because he and Jesse are the only fully fleshed out and dynamic characters on the show. And Jesse's experience is way outside my own. So Walt is the one I can most identify with because I've grown up around men like him (not meth deals, per se) my whole life. But I don't like those men either.

It's so sad, because as young Walt in those flashback scenes all I saw was an ambitious, confident, & optimistic man. He was the kind of guy you wouldn't mind be around.

in rewatching episodes/seasons of this, and then seeing the approaching conclusion of things, i think the whole show is about how differently and horribly we all breakdown when faced with extreme adversity. i don't believe this is any big revelation, it might have already been hashed-out and said better than i am here, but the title of the show is about breaking-down badly.

That last scene gave me the chills, in an awesome way.

Yep. When that garage door went down, I had the full-on shivers.

After you watch this, you'll be worried about those kids every time you watch Malcolm in the Middle. Because after this, he'll always be Walter White.

in the garage, why does hank tell him to 'bring skylar and the kids to the house and we'll talk'?

was it just to ensure he doesn't flee?

He probably doesn't want hostages or Walt to be able to spin some lie about him.

I'm gonna state the obvious and say that scene was incredible because in no way did I expect them to have THAT confrontation this early. But that's what makes the show so incredible. That garage door went down and I said, "Oh fucking shit!"

I'll always know him as the dentist on Seinfeld.

Given where we have to go and the short time we have to get there, coupled with the fact that this is really the ninth episode of season five, it made sense that something big like that happened in this episode. I don't know that I was expecting the confrontation to go down quite like that. It was amazing. But I was expecting Walt to find out that Hank knew.

He's probably worried about their safety. Walt is a dangerous man.

I was expecting Walt to find out as well, but was also expecting a little bit more of a dance before a confrontation.
