Re: Lightning Bolt - October 15
Going through this tracklist, can we all pretty much guess at this point in their career what style of songs go with what title? And which song was written by which guy? I do this often the last 2 records and found out I was pretty much on. I think we are all in agreement that "We're Outta Here" has got to be a pop-punk style of song, any guess to who wrote it? We know Ed's got 3 already

Not lyrically though, right? To be honest I don't care who writes the music, that's not my biggest issue with new PJ.Farmer John wrote:Stone wrote Supersonic, so all bets are off.

This is quite true.Thenews15 wrote:Going through this tracklist, can we all pretty much guess at this point in their career what style of songs go with what title? A song called We're Outta Here in the #1 spot is not going to be a quiet/contemplative build-up like Sometimes. It's got a much better chance of being Breakerfall or GSMF.

That's been true in the past. But, as we know, their song titles don't always match up with the music you'd expect.southp wrote:This is quite true.Thenews15 wrote:Going through this tracklist, can we all pretty much guess at this point in their career what style of songs go with what title? It's hard to do when you already know the songs. Can you think of an example that doesn't match up?EJ wrote:That's been true in the past. Of course in this case we don't even know if the track list is real.

You'd expect a song called Speed of Sound to be a bit more up-tempo in that slot of Backspacer
That's all I've got at the moment.

Apart from MYM not sounding like the fixer, that works depressingly well.wilkins wrote:PJ of late: Formulaic. RM of ever: Forumulaic
Mind Your Manners = The Fixer (first single)
Future Days = Just Breathe (second single)
Lightning Bolt = Amongst the Waves (third single)
I'll believe the LB tracklist when I see it in my hand, until then, they're all fake.
I bet Infallible is stone.

Re: Lightning Bolt - October 15
Based on a BO'B quote from this interview: http://forums.theskyiscrape.com/viewtop ... =15&t=1784
How has your role as producer changed since the days of Vs. and Vitalogy?
BOB: "It's changed a bit. We all kind of hit at the same time. They had just blown up with popularity out of nowhere. So I think that my role at the time was really getting those guys in a room and getting them in a headspace to record and make records. In a lot of ways it was as lot more difficult, just because they were trying to feel their way around it.
We made a lot of good records in those days, but there was a different way of doing it. In those days, there was a lot of setting up. We actually went into Vitalogy without having any songs. We'd start at noon and say, "What have you got?" and we'd start working. We'd never do that now. That's for young people. That's for people who have not made many records yet.
Once you've made a few records, you realize that's just toil and trouble."

I just meant going by song titles - not album placement. As you said, its probably safe to assume that in the 1 spot they'd have a speedier song, but who knows - a slower atmospheric song into MYM could really work too.southp wrote:You'd expect a song called Speed of Sound to be a bit more up-tempo in that slot of Backspacer

But, yeah, this could all be B.S. anyway.
