If that doesn't make you question your religion, I don't know what will.

Come for the spiritual healing

Stay for the bishop comforting the priest because the underage girl he impregnated had to be talked into an abortion and paid off

That terminology, "sick leave," was used three different times when documenting the employment and assignment history of the Rev. Edward George Ganster from the Catholic Diocese of Allentown.

However, his story didn't end there. He went somewhere else — to the “happiest place on earth"— and stayed for quite a while.

Ganster worked at Walt Disney World for 18 years following his departure from the priesthood in 1990. At least least three victims had come forward with child sexual abuse allegations against him.

And the Diocese wrote him the reference letter that secured the job for him. When requesting the recommendation, they told him: “I am quite sure that the Diocese will be able to give you a positive reference in regard to the work you did during your years of service here as a priest.”

The priests, George testified, had a group of favored boys who they would take on trips and give gifts.

"He (Zirwas) had told me they, the priests, would give their boys, their altar boys or their favorite boys these crosses," George testified. "So he gave me a big gold cross to wear."

In the report, the grand jury said, the crosses "were a designation that these children were victims of sexual abuse. They were a signal to other predators that the children had been desensitized to sexual abuse and were optimal targets for further victimization."

Isn't it convenient that he changed the Catholic Church stance on the death penalty just a few days ago?

Has a single organization ever been responsible for the systematic sexual abuse of so many children? Why is the Catholic church still a thing, much less something any human being would follow as a moral compass?

My ex-step-father-in-law (yeah, parse that one) is Catholic. He's also been accused by several people of molesting them when they were young (like young young) and no one cares. We talked to the pastor of the church where he's the leader of a youth group, they didn't care. We talked to CPS, they said "we're aware of him (?!?) but we don't have a way to go after him."

He told his ex-wife a few years ago that it's OK now because he confessed and Jesus/God forgave him. I know it's petty and un-Christian (and a little counter to the ideas inherent in the system) but I can't believe that Jesus/God can just forgive any sin. I feel like there are some that are up there in the "nope, not gonna happen" area of sinning.

Well, the priest is supposed to assign you penance to do after you've confessed your sins. When I was 10 and my sins were, "I argued with my brother and didn't listen to my mother," the penance was usually "Say 10 Hail Marys." Your sins aren't supposed to be forgiven until you do that penance. I assume that when someone confesses to something like molestation, the confessor could always say, "Alright, you will be forgiven as soon as you report yourself to the proper authorities." But that wouldn't be good for the institution, I imagine.

In this case I suspect the response was more “pics or it didn’t happen”

"One of the altar boys is groomed for molestation?" And then some version of this:
