we have to work twice as hard to be taken seriously
You'd better start working then! Stop slacking.
Come on... I am a Backspacer fan, I really am.
But to put it up against Yield? Seriously?

yield has 4 songs that I love (brain of j, dte wishlist, and given to fly). I like all those yesterdays. The rest of the album I could really take or leave. No songs I really dislike, but nothing I care all that much about. Pretty average.

Backspacer doesn't have any highs like dte or given to fly, but I find the album to be a far more consistently enjoyable listen.

How you don't think Faithful or In Hiding absolutely blow everything on Backspacer out of the water perplexes me. There is no song on Backspacer that comes handy to either of those musically, vocally, lyrically, or creatively from a songwriting perspective. Not even close.

I would say that's true of Faithfull and No Way, but not In Hiding. That's a hugely overrated song. It's good but not that good.

You don't think it's 1000x better than anything on Backspacer though?? Well, I guess 1000 x 0 = 0 still. Bad way to describe it I guess.

I disagree. I like Yield more but I fail to see how it is anymore creative than Backspacer. They are two albums just doing two very different things. The guitar work on In Hiding is great but the lyrics are pretty mediocre.

I think that every song on Yield (except The Color Red)is better than every song on Backspacer.

I initially typed 'nearly every song' then I read through the track lists and realized it may just be that every song on Yield is better than every song on Backspacer. Johnny Guitar, Amongst the Waves and Force of Nature would have to battle Pilate and maybe Low Light to have a chance at debunking my theory.

The lyrics on faithful are good but I don't like the chorus or Eddie's kinda squeaky vocals. I'm not in love with the riff on in hiding, and the prechorus is good but i find the lyrics kind of juvenille. I think they are both hugely overrated songs. In Hiding especially. I think just about every song on backspacer less supersonic and the end has better lyrics than In Hiding.

In fact, I think every song on backspacer except for supersonic and speed of sound is better than in hiding, and I'm not sure about speed of sound.

I'd take FON, Just Breathe, Amongst the Waves, The End and Johnny Guitar over Wishlist, Low Light, Pilate, Push Me , Pull Me and probably In Hiding . I think all those songs from Yield are good and It has some stellar songs like Faithfull, No Way, GTF, DTE, Brain of J and All Those Yesterdays. Putting my nostalgia aside and what the album meant to me at the time; Yield is far from a perfect record nor is it a creative breakthrough as much as it is Pearl Jam doing Pearl Jam well.

wishlist is one of the best songs on Yield. You guys are too distracted by bells and whistles.

What you were saying about JB in the other thread I feel about Wishlist. If it was a 1 minute song I'd like it more. I loved it back in the day but I haven't had the urge or need to listen to it in a good 7 years. Even when I liked it I think it was more due to the SVT segment than t song itself.

i have a lot of important personal memories attached to that song so I'm sure it colors my perceptions, but I think the lyrics are excellent, the music is simple but it helps showcase the words, and mike has that wonderful solo.

i can't speak for jambi, but i know that i've never skipped a song from DTE on. i can't say the same about the songs between GTF & DTE.

I'm more likely to get through MFC then switch to something else. Again it's not that I think they are bad songs, I just think they are not on the same level as the ones I mentioned.
