wishlist is one of the best songs on Yield. You guys are too distracted by bells and whistles.

i can't speak for jambi, but i know that i've never skipped a song from DTE on. i can't say the same about the songs between GTF & DTE.

I'm more likely to get through MFC then switch to something else. Again it's not that I think they are bad songs, I just think they are not on the same level as the ones I mentioned.

I love the simplicity of wishlist. There was speak of pj songs that the lyrics match the music perfectly and I would say this is definitely one of them. The production is also so fantastic. I would love to hear the 10 minute version with a million wishes!

The song just scoots along so beautiful and the guitar interplay is wonderful. Something the band doesnt do any more. On all the slower ballads and songs it seems as though Mike and Stone have given up and just stay off in the background or simply playing eds chords. The way the lead liens bounce off each other in wishlist is something that is greatly missed lately. Simple yet effective guitar tones playing off the melody while not intruding on it. The notes that aren't played are just as important here.

Studio Wishlist is incredible. It's a song that has a huge gulf for me between the live and recorded performance (maybe cause what they capture on that record is practically impossible in an arena).

I do like Jeff's bass in In Hiding. I like the piano in the second verse, too. Just not a fan of the guitar in here, or how Eddie sounds, or the lyrics outside of the pre chorus. that's a lot of strikes.

Not a bad song mind you, but extremely overrated.


For people who shit on the riff in FON, how is it any worse than the riff in the pre-chorus in Hiding?

It's better in every way. Works better in the song, sounds better, is produced better. And the riff isn't a sum total of a song; if a better song had surrounded the riff in Force of Nature, it's flaws might not be that apparent, and maybe wouldn't even be flaws.

There is WAY more going on in the riff of In hiding than FON. I love FON but from a guitar/riff stand point in Hiding is far better. Whereas FON is pounding away at 2 chords, In HIdiing is linking melody between a handful of notes within two chords....

Im still uncertain how those two can be compared?

I think In Hiding is unique in that it plays 5 descending notes that wouldn't typically ever be played together and the melody ed creates to bring it all together is great.

They're also doing very different things in each song. The riff in In Hiding purposefully disrupts the mellower feel of the verse to give the soar in the chorus something to build off of, and the majority of Force of Nature is riding that riff. That alone doesn't necessarily mean that the Force of Nature riff is bad, but it does seem tough to compare them in isolation to the rest of the songs they're in.

What Stone plays is much more textured in that part ( I swallowed my...) than what's going on in FON. He breaks up up some of the chords with some other notes . It's not a continual plodding like in FON. Plus the guitar work throughout the song is quite textured and well executed. In Hiding was also produced to be more guitar centered than FON which seems more drivin by the general plodding rhythm. In general I think I'm more turned off by Mikes choice of leads and guitar fx more than anything else.

yield has 4 songs that I love (brain of j, dte wishlist, and given to fly). I like all those yesterdays. The rest of the album I could really take or leave. No songs I really dislike, but nothing I care all that much about. Pretty average.

Backspacer doesn't have any highs like dte or given to fly, but I find the album to be a far more consistently enjoyable listen.

I really dig you, Stip, but I'll never understand this. No Way, Faithful, Low Light, In Hiding, MFC, Push Me Pull Me and all in addition to the ones you've already named. It's a pretty great fecking album.
