It's a very influential movie with some amazing imagery, but it can be a chore to sit through, and a lot of it is silly. It's definitely in love with itself at times. I like it though. Watch it at home with a finger on the fast forward button.

I must have bad eyesight or something, because I get nothing out of all this high def stuff. I saw it on Imax. It was fine. Whatever.

I've always loved the movie. But I think "watch at home with a finger on the fast forward button" is the exact wrong way to watch the movie. I can understand why people think it can be a chore, especially if they've only seen it at home. The movie is so much better in the big dark room.

It's just such an exquisite mastery of craft and it changed/influenced cinema forever. Even if you don't like the "story" I feel like you have to appreciate what it achieved and what it inspired.

I will say in terms of quality, the IMAX version is nothing special. The projector is only 2K, so you’re pretty much just watching a Blu-ray blown up onto a massive screen.

Also, for the record, I never find the movie to be a chore at all. I think it’s totally absorbing and entertaining. That 2.5 hours just flies by.

For the fast forwarding, I was mostly referring to the parts where some alarm sounds for what seems like an eternity. Plus some of the take off/landing shots remind me of all the terrible scenes in the Star Wars prequels of ships landing and taking off. I'm sure it was impressive back in the day but...

I hadn't seen this in years. I was always under the impression that HAL was influenced by the obelisk thing, but I guess that wasn't the case. It kinda annoys me now that it's basically two separate plots jammed together. Oh well.

The ship landings are by far my favorite sections of the movie. I wept pretty intensely during that first one after the Dawn of Man jump cut.

Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

The Zoo Keeper's Wife - this was pretty good

I've never even heard of this movie.

It was a Cameron Crowe-produced spinoff of We Bought A Zoo; it was directed by McG. It was mostly about Matt Damon's character's wife.

I don't believe this for one second.
