Every time someone says ¨scary movies are way too much for me¨ I respond the same way. Life is way more scarier and fucked up.

I saw The Nun last night and I was expecting it to be much scarier

Yeah I liked it. Nothing great but solid. It felt more monster-movie-ish than most of the other supernatural movies. I kept wishing Francis Ford Coppola directed it; I want it to go heavier with stylized, gothic visuals. Lots of missed opportunities for that.

Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

Still, it’s hard not to feel that this love letter is so caught up in its admiration for its source material that you occasionally get that wax-museum-with-a-pulse feeling — a sensation that blood is not the only thing gushing here. Green and Co. have made a tribute that consistently runs the risk of being trapped by its own fanboyishness, so busy trying to balance big-upping a legacy that leaving their own mark on the series becomes a bit of an afterthought. It’s their Halloween all right, but one so marked by callbacks and a checklist of beats to hit for their fellow that there’s not a lot of room for much else. It never escapes the shadow its under. None of which mattered when you have Jamie Lee Curtis standing on stage, basking in well-earned applause as the credits roll and sing-song cooing into the microphone “Happy Halloween, motherfuckers.” Happy Halloween, indeed. If the premiere’s reception is any indication, fans will be in ecstasy. The rest will simply be scared to death.
