They've been doing, essentially, the same tour for 5 years now. They've exhausted the material and the formatting. New blood is crucial at this point unless they just want to oversaturate and become stale.

They haven't exactly exhausted the material - they just gave up on 2/3 of each of the last three albums almost immediately.

Do we want to hear Marker In the Sand, The End, and My Father's Son instead of Once, Elderly Woman, and Immortality? Probably?

i mean, i would personally. but i think where they find themselves (to much chagrin) is trying to play a show to 25,000 people that is divided between casual fans and super fans

The issue with the stadium shows is more like 50,000-60,000 people.

I actually would be a cool idea to go somewhat old school and play smaller shows for the hardcore fans couples with larger shows for more general access from casual and super fans.

At least a local example is a lot of bands (QOTSA and various incarnations of the Dead) have played the Capitol Theater in Port Chester, NY (1,800 Cap) followed by Madison Square Garden with more than ten times the capacity. Pearl Jam could do a lot with this sort of format and have a lot of fun with it.

I think one of the issues today is how little they actually play. 50 show tours are now 10 show tours. In the past the band wouldn’t hit their stride until a point where today the tour is long over by.

i get that for sure. but i think the choice with that is:

1) See a show that isn't perfect
2) See a show without a singer

Yeah, it is what it is at this point, I’ve enjoyed every PJ show I’ve ever been to, including last weeks.

I can only imagine the level of bitching if Stone actually started singing more.

There have been a few I have been disappointed with (philly 2 2013 comes to mind), but overall there are none I regret attending in the sense that I would rather have been somewhere else.

Yeah, some have been better than others but I’ve never been to a bad PJ show.

This is where I'm at but this latest round of Wrigley shows left a bad taste in my mouth. Beyond tired of that place.

I'm definitely cool with them never playing Fenway again, but I feel like we are getting shows we wouldn't otherwise because of Fenway. We might have gotten a show at the FleetCenter or Mansfield in 2016 after MSG, but it's possible we wouldn't have had a show since 2013 if it wasn't for Fenway.

It's time to point out that DC has had 4 shows this century.

I think you could say that about a lot of metro areas in the US. At least some other cities are close to DC.

I'm just speaking to Boston shows, I know there are plenty of places they've ignored since the Riot Act tour.

Right, but in the context of 'whoa is me, shitty venue for the 4 shows we've had in the last 2 years', zero shows in the past 10 years wins.

....No?

But yeah the Encore 2's REALLY need shaking it up. Can they find more classic rock covers to play besides Baba and RITFW? If they're gonna do em pick some new ones Im so sick of those same songs. I'm sick of Alive, Rockin, Baba, Indifference, YL, Comfortably Numb, Fuckin Up....ALWAYS being the last songs. ALWAYS. Maybe a betterman thrown in.

Like...seriously....put some new songs in that spot. And maybe move those other songs somewhere else in the set? Have they ever played YL somewhere besides the end of their shows? Why not move it?
