General Admission

Post by kiddo »

Hi Folks:

Finally I am getting to go to a GA show! 10C says that we do not have to get there early...pardon me if I don't quite believe that.

How early do I need to be in order to get up front?

Thanks xx

G Dang, I remember the day when PJ were worth it to line up the night before! I never did but when i was out for the Rapid City 98 show we drove by he arena the night before to take a peek and there were people there sleeping on concrete. That made us at least get there fairly early the next day!

But you DON'T have to get there early.

See, we are all the same.

1) get there early
2) buy a cup
3) don't leave the rail, and pee in the cup
4) throw cup in the air at fellow fans.

From experience on European dates, when I had 10c tickets for early entry (GA, before opening of public doors), I used to arrive around 1 hour before doors were opened, there were already 100 to 200 people in the queue. The first ones in the queue were often attending several dates with other people, I guess they took turns to be the first at the venue, and keep spots in the queue for their friends.
Even if I arrived just when the gates were opened, I was able to get closer to the stage depending on the city: for example in 2012, the pit was not too crowded in Oslo even in the first rows (I managed to get pretty close without forcing my way), whereas Berlin was really tight with some pushing, and Amsterdam had the floor split into 2 sections with a barrier (front pit was reserved for the first arrived).

I do not know how the GA crowds behave in the US, but looking at the venue maps in Ticketmaster, GA pits seem to be usually half or 1/3 of the floor, so I guess I will be very happy even if I am in the back of the pit. :nice:

i think pearl jam said 1/3-1/2 of the floor depending on the venue will be GA. even if its 1/2 of the floor, thats still pretty awesome. ive only see pearl jam once in GA in Atlantic City, but that was much smaller than the venue they are playing in philly. im not really sure what to expect to be honest.

You've been to a European festival or two, right?

The thing that was a bit hilarious was that some of the "tour followers" would pretty much organise the queueing. They were like handing out numbers or writing them on your arm or something. You had for example people arriving at 1pm, having number 3 written on their hand and then leaving again to spend the rest of the afternoon doing some more interesting things. Which led to a bit frustration and some "elite clique forming".
Of course this I didn't experience since I have no interest at all being front row and I'm not 10C anyway.

I'm too old for this shit. I 'll get a better view, be able to take a piss break and grab a beer from my seats that will likely be side view in the 100 section. I was basically GA in 2004 at the last VFC show in florida. That was fun, but I can see us americans really turning the GA sections into a bad thing.
