Joe did you see my review of Blackkklansman? Would leave to hear your thoughts, I think you mentioned you saw it but I couldn't find any sort of review. I can't stop thinking about it!
I did see your review. I didn't take issue with any of it. I also think it's Spike's best film in decades. Top 5 film of the year for sure.
:hooray:
Also, I've never felt that way in a movie theater after a film before. The silence. The sense of community and togetherness. It was palpable and visceral. We were all in tears. People were hugging each other. It was a unique experience for me and one I'll always remember.
What the hell kind of weird-ass touchy-feely NYC movie theater did you watch this in

The Alamo goddamn drafthouse.

Maybe we were all drunk.
Ugh. This makes sense. I fucking hate Alamo audiences.
This makes sense. It's the only place in NYC that I like seeing movies. It's the only place I can go where audiences respect the movie theater experience.
I haven’t found this true at all. Seems like a bunch of snarky hipsters who think they’re better than whatever movie they’re watching. So much inappropriate, condescending laughter.

I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.

I can totally see that being true in places, for sure. It was my biggest fear when I first tried the place out. But everything is so different in NYC. Brooklyn's chalk full of places where snarky hipsters can swing their dicks and have much more cache. Here, Alamo, is one of two places I can go where the audiences are respectful and appropriate. It's a fucking oasis for me. The other is BAM, which only shows 4 movies at a time usually. It's a super rad theater but it's a full-on art house. You rarely get any of the more mainstream/blockbuster films there.

Do The Right Thing
Blackkklansman
25th Hour
Inside Man
Jungle Fever

Time will tell if Blackkklansman retains the #2 spot, but it is definitely up there.
I'm with you on that top 2.
What are yours? Should we take it to the Rank a Director's Filmography thread?
I haven't seen enough of Spike's work. But yeah, I'll go over there and rank the ones I've seen.

The fact that Alamo Drafthouse tells people not once, but twice, to shut the fuck up before the movie will always mean it has a special place in my heart.

People that fetishized the original for a generation gave Shane Black some money.

It’s very clear that love for the original played no part in this
