What can that even mean? Our senses, our memories, everything our inner monologue narrates to us in a demand to perceive it as the present is really the aftereffect of our body's chemistry reacting to events that, from a cosmic perspective, have long since occurred. Even the most advanced predictive models can only output a guess about a system whose present state we can never know, based on data that is already too old to accurately describe it. So are we not, right now and forevermore, only able to see and know the past, rendering the whole concept of a foreseeable future as nothing more than a child's play game?wease wrote:That they can’t see far enough into the future where this storm isn’t there.B wrote:We'll be dealing with this "for the next foreseeable future."

Re: Here comes the story of the hurricane
me and my son saw this on the weather channel and were laughing our heads off at the dudes walking as calmly as can be in the backround while the jackass up front had to "whoa..lower my center of gravity" as he put it.bune wrote:

I guess somebody records the weather channel to be able to upload that moment
that's weird too, yes/no?

Re: Here comes the story of the hurricane
you know on the big island of hawaii when this hurricane came recently, the side of the island closer to the hurricane got like almost no rain
but no one would know that from the TV weathermen who just showed pictures of floating cars
literally people swimming in their pools and hanging out outside because the mountain creates these microclimates
but hey why would people care to know that when you CAN JUST SHOW THEM SOME SHITTY TOYOTA COROLLA FLOATING DOWN SOME SHITTY STREET

Re: Here comes the story of the hurricane
The weather channel has been so fucking dramatic with this. One person had to be rescued by cutting a hole in their roof, so Jim Cantore and Stephanie Abrams starting saying could be like Katrina. And yeah that video says it all.
Stephanie Abrams stood by the same downed tree all day today.
Don't get me wrong, it's bad, and my family is still in the middle of it, but sensationalizing it does no one any good. But, these are the same assholes that name winter "storms"

I'm not sure why you'd think he was joking. The Weather Channel is the worst click-bait-y-est site out there. All of their headlines are some variation of Armageddon.Bi_3 wrote:I was like ‘lame joke my evenbro’, then I looked.E.H. They gotta do something. It’s 24 hours of WEATHER. Outside of my father-in-law, I doubt many people sit and watch it all day every day.durdencommatyler wrote:I'm not sure why you'd think he was joking. Re: Here comes the story of the hurricane
The news and the weather channel and facebook are HORRIBLE in this type of situation. Especially for those of us on the cusp of this. We had lines at gas stations and people filling their washing machines with ice. Schools started cancelling events on Wednesday and shut down Thursday and Friday. One family here in Chapel Hill moved into their basement on TUESDAY! We went out for pizza last night. It was a light drizzle, almost no wind, and it was like a ghost town. Half the restaurants were closed.
Watching the news made it seem like we were going to die if we didn't head to a shelter. On any other day, it would have business as usual in 5X as much rain as we got.
After having said all that, I don't know ... maybe that's the price I pay so that people who really ARE in danger actually listen to the news and get the fuck out.

I can't remember the last time I watched the Weather Channel. But I do go to their site almost every day to check temps and such. But, yeah, I can't imagine sitting around and watching that channel.wease wrote:They gotta do something. It’s 24 hours of WEATHER.
