I think the trade speaks to the lack of depth in the Ottawa organization. Ottawa felt with the depth they have that they needed someone who could play immediately. I think Ottawa is desperate too. Assuming they make their pick this year and give Colorado next year's, the worst thing they can do is go out of their way to make sure the pick isn't too high. The whole situation sucked for the Sens, and my initial reaction to the trade was "Man, Hoffman's girlfriend really torpedoed the Sens chances of jump-starting a rebuild by trading him," but the return really wasn't that surprising, all things considered. It only looked worse in light of the subsequent trade to Florida. Maybe Boedker can increase his value enough to recoup the second rounder they probably should have gotten in the first place, though.
