I like Blink better so I voted for Adam’s Song, but it was close.

But thats why the song doesn't work for me, it reminds me of Glee. Its like its trying to parody its subject matter and also treat it seriously for pathos at the exact same time.

Regardless, neither of these songs is a parody

Adam's Song.
The lyrics make it sound like they're making fun of the kid (the apple juice line) but then it tries to be serious and deep. So I dont understand it

I am not a big fan of "Adam's Song" but yeah, you're misinterpreting the meaning of the apple juice line

Re: Gone Away vs. Adam's Song
Both songs are kind of annoying
The Offspring song may be the most musically straightforward song in the entire tournament, and that's saying something. It is literally the same 4 chords over and over again with no variation between verses, choruses or bridge. I don't know how the bassist kept from falling asleep. The song has a nice enough melody and a passionate vocal performance which save it.
"Adam's Song" is super tedious except for the drum part, which is really cool. Travis Barker should've gotten a songwriting credit for that alone.

What is the interpretation? Its just a really bad line.theplatypus wrote:I am not a big fan of "Adam's Song" but yeah, you're misinterpreting the meaning of the apple juice line
"You'll close it off, board it up
Remember the time that I spilled the cup"
"........OF APPLE JUICE. IN THE HALL"
I hate that broken rhyme so much its so cheesy. It just sounds like "Remember the time I spilled the cup." which is a horrible line. Its just so ridiculous.

Re: Gone Away vs. Adam's Song
Also it gets worse....
Who writes a song about suicidal teens because his friends have a girlfriend and he doesnt?"Bassist Mark Hoppus penned "Adam's Song" to vent these frustrations and the loneliness he experienced on the tour; while the other members had longtime girlfriends to return home to, Hoppus was single.[5] "When you're on tour, you're so lonely," Hoppus said. "You hang out with all your bros and it's a great time and everything, but everybody wants to come home and have a girlfriend. And every time we'd fly home, Tom and [former drummer] Scott [Raynor] always had girlfriends waiting for them at the airport, and I didn't. It's about me being depressed and lonely out on tour, and not really having anything to come home to."[6] The couplet "I couldn't wait til I got home/To pass the time in my room alone" originally ended "to get off the plane alone."[1]
Hoppus said the song's inspiration came from "reading a magazine where some teenage kid had killed himself and left a letter for his family."

For dour songs about dead people, I'm going with The Offspring on this one.
