Do you think any of this stuff may have been in his files that the Republicans withheld from the judiciary committee and republicans?
100%
*democrats

Yea, i dont know. Quite possibly.

Honestly, trump has no ideology and the only reasons he is still pushing for it is 1) he likes to win and 2) Brett K has expressed his belief that sitting presidents cannot be indicted or subpoenaed

I mean, it doesn't take much to realize why Trump has picked his pony.

Put him in front of the press, he says otherwise, and a lot of the party pressure on senators just vanishes.
my sense is that the real pressure has been from Grassley and McConell (and probably some other senators who are less front and center), because they have an idiology to assert. Trump's pressure to ram Kavanaugh through is more about him winning than having anything to do with the future of federal law; he'd be just as happy to have a chimpanzee on the Supreme Court, so long as it for him good ratings.

By all means, push back if you think i'm wrong, but i fail to see another narrative
Vote drumming is a primary job of legislative leadership. There is no scenario where Kavanaugh is the nominee and they don’t exhibit exactly the behaviors you describe. Ever. White House refusal to rescind their selection is the only reason for all this spinning. The seat is theirs either way.

Remember, McConnell was opposed to even nominating Kavanaugh, exactly because it would be hard to get the votes.
i did not know this, thanks for clarifying! i still don't think Trump has any ideology beyond himself, but of course BK would protect Trump from indictment so i'm seeing your position much better now.
I agree that Kav was the pick because he would protect Trump. Everyone on that list would have been a good ideological Republican pick.

They will still get the seat, but their next pick will have to be a lot cleaner. Another fuck up would be insurmountable.

I wasn’t exactly responding to you. I just don’t get why the “democrats saved these claims until now” nonsense doesn’t get more pushback in general.

Considering all of his bylines during the past year, the "Ronan Farrow is a Democratic stooge" explanation has been particularly bizarre.

which makes sense given that it's clear at this point:

- he is a dirty blackout drunk
- he lived an adolescence where he got away with sexual assault

so why would that behavior change when he is older and drunk enough?

this is great though bc classic Trump shitting where he eats. maybe this asshole gets rammed through but now at the cost of losing the Senate too

Does anyone in the world sincerely believe Kavanaugh is a rampaging sexpest, though?

It all seems like some horrifying, shameful beat-up.
i know guys who engaged in similar behavior in high school and college, and a couple of them were from upper class families. that doesn't mean he's guilty, obviously, but it's enough to convince me of the possibility.
Even if it were possible, how is anyone able to come to a conclusion on any firm basis considering the fallibility of memory and the passage of time? That these allegations should bar the guy from being a Supreme Court judge absent some extremely compelling evidence seems bizarre, but the political nature of the confirmation process in general seems very weird to me.
dude, there is compelling evidence - multiple people corroborating. just because the GOP is choosing to bypass normal criminal investigation of these claims does not mean that the allegations are not compelling. it means that they are choosing authoritarianism over justice

Multiple people corroborating the same story? Or multiple people coming forward with individual, unrelated reports? That’s not to say the latter can’t be compelling but the volume itself isn’t necessarily persuasive, the credibility of the individual reports is much more important.

Surely it’s up to the police if they pursue a criminal investigation?

there are witnesses the GOP just isn't pursing a real investigation via the FBI

the deniers haven't done so under oath, it's been via press releases and other synthetic bullshit

put these people under penalty of purgery and they will squeal faster than george plopadopolous

There aren't any corroborating witnesses. Just people that said she told them years later.

you're on the wrong side of the fence here burt

there's nothing anarchistic about rooting for a guy that rapes people and helped GWB enact the Patriot Act
