Re: The Supreme Court
Sure, provided you overlook the fact that it's being written by someone up for a lifetime appointment to the nation's highest court. You guys can argue all you want over the veracity of the claims against him, but personally I think his screed about the Clintons, a left-wing hit job, etc. is far more disqualifying. It will be interesting to see, if he gets enough votes, how that testimony could come back to haunt him, and certainly how it will affect his working relationship with the rest of the court.Birds in Hell wrote: Pretty sound response from Judge Kavanaugh here.

Re: The Supreme Court
I have to agree. His prepared statement was so off the rails, that I can't trust he'd give any serious thought to his decisions on the court. I mean, he absolutely knew he was going to be asked "did you ever drink until you blacked out?" and his best answer was, "I don't know, did you?" That wasn't a gotcha question.meatwad wrote:Sure, provided you overlook the fact that it's being written by someone up for a lifetime appointment to the nation's highest court. The Heritage Foundation has a whole list of judges that'll make sure women can only get abortions via coathanger. Why not pick another one that didn't grow up being a dick to women and/or can at least stay calm when asked simple questions that he or she knows god damned well he's going to be asked.
Everything's perfectly all right now. We're fine. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you?

I always love this argument " talked about my long record of advancing and promoting women, including as a judge—a majority of my 48 law clerks have been women—and as a longtime coach of girls’ basketball teams."4/5 wrote:Really? Re: The Supreme Court
if they disbar a Supreme Court Justice, can the Justice no longer serve?
my guess is they probably can still serve
what a diarrhea-laiden mess
PS
is Murkowski's "no" one of these strategic things to help save votes?
as in - the GOP know they got this approval in the bag, but at least let the potentially more vulnerable to re-election woman senator vote no so that she can save herself some votes while still knowing this goes through?

Sure sounds like it, given what's she's said on the floor so far.tragabigzanda wrote:Reports that Kyl (finishing out McCain's term) and GOP attorney were seen grinning after speaking with Collins. This is presumably a done deal, unless Collins somehow changes her mind.

Collins on the Senate floor: "I love rape, being raped, and watching other people being raped. I love it so much, I love things that also just sound like 'rape', such as 'grape' and 'ape'. So I am voting for Brett Kensington, or whatever his name is. Buy merch"

Collins on the Senate floor: So I decided to go to Morganville, which is what they called Shelbyville in those days. So I tied an onion to my belt, which was the style at the time. Now, to take the ferry cost a nickel, and in those days, nickels had pictures of bumblebees on 'em. "Gimme five bees for a quarter," you'd say.

You can probably leave, it's pretty clear where this is going despite how long she's been speaking.doug rr wrote:I wish she'd hurry up, I have Steve and Eydie ticketscutuphalfdead wrote:Collins on the Senate floor: So I decided to go to Morganville, which is what they called Shelbyville in those days.
