The whole American clothing donations killed the Kenya textile industry thing for episode one made me really sad.

I'd like to think there's at least one thing Americans can do that won't fuck over someone.

My two brothers worked all over Africa in these areas and it’s really appalling. You donate the clothes for free and they end up being sold for stupid money in Africa. It changed local cultures and economies. They had western culture forced in them. So depressing.

Just saw an ad for "The Final Episode" and it's the LES.

I've been to Katz's a few times and really love it, but is it overhyped? Because I haven't been to many other delis of that type. Is it that much better than the others? Or is it just that it occupies a certain space in pop culture?

I think Katz's is overhyped but only just. There are places like Mile End Deli that are about as good and less expensive. But Katz's is still the standard

I haven't watched the 'Disappearing Manhattan' No Reservations or the 'New York' episode of the Layover in quite a while, in fact I haven't been to New York in five years as of this month... might have to hop on a train this weekend.

Steve Albini wrote:Whenever there's active promotion on the part of somebody else, whenever I see somebody all dolled up for a fancy photograph and someone's handing out flyers or whenever there's active promotion for something like that, as an imposition on my day, I hate all those people and I want them to fail. I have a visceral reaction to advertising and promotion. There's just something about salesmanship that grates on me on a very base level and I react very negatively towards it. I want those people to suffer and I want their enterprises to fail.
