Not sure I remember specific groups or songs, but I guess it would be helpful to pay attention to that. I've been listening to Sigur Ros, Mogwai, and Pullman for years, but guess I never really payed attention to much else in the genre.

I'm with Trag, for the most part, though I do still like to get down with some bombast every once in a while. I'm still a big fan of Godspeed You! Black Emperor and Explosions in the Sky, after all. But yeah, give me meandering structures and minimalist forms everyday, and I'm happy.

I don't think I've ever heard Pullman, but I should probably check them out due to the Tortoise connections. I listened to the first couple Brokeback albums recently, and they were pretty wonderful.

I've listened to about half their available episodes, and it is pretty interesting and informative, though there are certain aspects of the hosts' personalities that are a bit off-putting at times.

I've been really into music that makes sense on a bicycle at 3am lately. Work commute soundtracks. Tortoise's compilation, A Lazarus Taxon, is especially good in this context.

This collection on CD was my introduction to the band when I bought the box on a whim, years ago. Maybe not the best introduction, since it's full of demos, remixes, b-sides, etc. I've really only heard Millions Now Living... and TNT outside of this collection, but I don't know those two albums nearly as well as I know this compilation. Funny, really, since the type of music Tortoise makes is 100% up my alley, but my favorite tracks on the compilation seem to be the remixes and covers.

The first disc of ALT is actually their first release for Thrill Jockey, that immediately went out of print (one run only). And then the Mike Watt song was something that was supposed to be included on that release, but didn’t make it to the printer in time.

I’m actually working on a Tortoise mix for Ruddo that leans heavily on every other album of theirs, because ALT is a mixed bag and TNT is something I think should be experience more as an albimZ Happy to share it with you when it’s finished.

It's the third disc, tho. Rhythms, Resolutions, & Clusters. Also, the self-titled album came out first, and was also on Thrill Jockey, and even that was preceded by the "Lonesome Sound" single.
