I mean, a light saber is an integral part to the star wars story. Without them the Jedi would be just pew pewing around with blasters. The dice really aren't important to the story at all

But again, they don't bother me, I'm just acknowledging that they are fan service

We knew that but thats article is from June though. And they’ve pretty much broken even on it and it’s top of the dvd Blu ray charts since it’s been released. It’s a pisser we won’t get two a year now but maybe that’s good too. Don’t know for sure if summer and Christmas and summer is a good idea for them.

I wonder what the total profit would be? I'm assuming they've cleared enough to pay the credit card statement for the LFL purchasedimejinky99 wrote:Wow. Just heard some crazy numbers on Collider. Revenue in disney era Star Wars so far.

Really? That’s weird.
A lightsaber wouldn't be, but bringing back Luke's (Vader's) lightsaber is getting into the fan service area. I mean, that think was presumably lost in ESB.
I guess we'll get a comic book, web series, toy line to tell us how it was found.

They only paid €4 billon. That’s pennies when you look at it even without those profits to date. They got Indy and tons of other stuff in that sale too not just Star Wars

We are still waiting on that explanation. Lando is in IX. Could be it’s to do with him

I'll admit I was somewhat confused my the significance of the dice in Solo. I watched that original trilogy a lot of times I never noticed dice.

As far as I know they’re only truly visible in one shot in the OT
That said, Filming TFA Ford remembered them and just ordered a pair online and hung them
It’s a sickener the scene he hangs them back up got cut. Would have been a lovely little touch aside from being a nice throughline.

Nobody will care but anyways
Solo nicely cleans up a bit of a plot hole (created by Solo the film in fairness)
The falcon has three landing gear in ANH but it has five in Empire. But it has five in Solo.
So they wrote it that the front two landing gear break off during the kessel run and he replaces them between ANH and empire.
I know I didn’t need that explained either but here we are. People had noticed and complained apparently.

Huh, didn't know about the 3 vs. 5 landing struts. Interesting.
People complained? Not surprised.

Three in a new hope, the falcon was only partially built for this shot and the docking bay on the Death Star

They had to build the falcon all over again full sized this time for empire. It was such a huge set that Echo base on hoth the space slug cave and bespin sets were built filmed and taken down around it as the shoot went along. It was so huge they realised the three landing gear would never hold it up so two more landing gear were added up front. Weirdly I can’t find a good shot of this but here’s a screenshot where they’re visible

Yeah, that Cloud City shot is the only time I can recall seeing more than three landing struts.
That's funny about the three sets that had to be taken down, set up around the MF. It's a big set piece.

They couldn’t build it at elstree so they got an engineering company in Wales(couple of hundred miles away) to build it. They have it down to a tee now and it’s built in sections that interlock when needed. Only the lower hull was needed for shooting in Donegal in TLJ so they shipped that over and built it. Much more cost effective.
There’s shots in a new hope and ROTJ where it’s not there at all and just a huge matt painting of it was used. Painted beautifully by the way. You’d never notice unless you were really looking for it.

yeah, you could easily see the matte painting of it on the rebel cruiser in ROTJ. If I recall correctly, my original MF toy from the early 80s only had three landing struts...and the front one was loose and it would collapse easily...dimejinky99 wrote:blueviper wrote:Yeah, that Cloud City shot is the only time I can recall seeing more than three landing struts.

I can confirm you are the very first person I’ve seen saying that.
It’s a lot more lighthearted fun than either that’s for sure.
