I think it’s done great with showing they don’t all have to be the same things or do the same things. And that’s where some of the kick back or resistance against it came from. That said we’ve seen nothing but endless amounts of very vocal people who skipped it or didn’t make it to the cinema to see it and caught it at home on dvd or whatever and they’re raving about it and saying they wished they’d seen it on the big screen. Only stats so far are from the uk where it’s in it’s fourth week top of the dvd/Blu ray charts.
Think the lesson here is these folks won’t let that happen again.

I hate to say it, but I think that I liked this less on the second viewing

I wasn’t that crazy about it at first but it climbed up for me.

Got to wondering again if they knew this one was meant to be fun and gave it such a quick release after TLJ to work as a pallet cleanser. Ah who knows

I got Solo from the library and watched it. While I still have issues with it, I liked it better on my 2nd viewing.

When they aren’t doing the Han Solo checklist and expositing plot points, it works better than I remember in the theater.

Yeah the box ticking is a bit much. To be fair there’s only really a need to have him meet chewie. But meeting Lando and winning the falcon is totally fine.
It goes into needless with the kessel run but most especially with how he gets the name Solo.
That’s the biggest offender for my money.

I can live happily with every single one of these except the Solo name scene.

Glad to hear you liked it more second spin.

I think it’s the most fun true Star Wars spirit of fun and adventure since ANH

I would agree it has the most fun true SW spirit of at least the new era of movies.

I got this movie for Christmas. Haven't watched it yet, but I expect I'll like it. I'm easy on movies.

Rewatched this recently. Still not really sure why this movie needed to exist.

Best guess would say they wanted to use a popular character as a gateway to either make a trilogy with and/or get the public used to the idea of standalones about known characters.

Why does any film need to exist though?
