i only ever played the original. did the mechanics ever change, or has it stayed the same but with better graphics?

The core game is identical, but they've added a few items and additions to move sets. It is the ultimate game of rock, paper, scissors with the dozens and dozens of characters and stages.

I could have easily taken all Nintendo games so far. There are just so many great ones over the past 30+ years.

To me, it's about mass appeal. There are better games, IMO, such as Bloodborne, but they aren't the same kind of accessible, giddy fun. I can't even play Bloodborne without crying. RDR2 is probably going to be my only wild card pick. If my calculations are correct, it's probably going to be the best game of all time, and you all will see why it was a steal for a 3rd round pick. Or, it will be a total disaster and I will look like an idiot.
