I think it's easily the worst of the band's original run.

This is just crazy talk. I like No.4 and all, but it’s most definitely not their best album. Purple and Shangri-La are vastly superior. So is Tiny Music. Hell, I’d argue core is better too.

I don’t trust any of you freaks who rate stupid Shangri so highly. You’re all fools.

Shangri-La is fucking awesome. It’s STP’s most diverse and well rounded album and it has about 8 or 9 fantastic songs. I don’t trust anyone that can’t hear that or thinks that No.4 is the band’s best effort. The production on No.4 is bad. It reminds me a lot of Avocado in that respect. I think we should all see clearly who’s being fooled.

I'd agree 4 is best. Tiny, Purple, and Core are all interchangeable for me after that

J. Mascus’ guitar tones are noteworthy.

yeah, Shangri La is really good. It took a long time to see it.

No, he said he hasn’t given it a real chance. I’ve listened to No.4 hundreds of times. And it has some of STP’s absolute best songs. Glide and Atlanta are right up there with the best of STP. But No.4 is really uneven. It has those highs, but it it riddled with lesser songs and bad production. It’s still a solid album, but I think it clearly the weakest of the first 5.

It took me a long time too, but when it finally revealed itself to me it was a game changer. It’s easily one of the 90s most under appreciated albums.
