Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec - PS2, 2001

When this came out it was the ultimate racing game and I probably spent hundreds of hours playing it. It was really hard to pick a racing game between this and Need For Speed’s Hot Pursuit 2 and Underground series, but I have to give the edge to Turismo.

At this point, you can probably tell the PS2 era was my gaming era of choice, being a young teen with ample free time then.

GT 4 is the only one I've played.

I think I'd lean toward the, er, leaner Arkham Asylum, but both are so good.

Arkham Knight, however, can fuck right off.

I need to replay Arkham Asylum. It's been far too long.

Arkham Asylum is one of maybe 5 (?) video games I've played in the last five years without Madden in the title.

Round 9: Pikmin (GameCube). A rare action / strategy game done right. Nintendo's best new IP of the past 15 years.

Round 10: Borderlands 2 (PS3). A FPS that feels like a MMORPG. Total chaos, fun, and irreverence. A game that never takes itself even a bit too seriously. Borderlands 3 is overdue.

Pikmin was weird. I remember my cousin had that, it felt like a cross between the Chao garden in the Dreamcast era Sonic games and Animal Crossing.

I liked how the world of City felt more "open," but it's very hard to pick a fav between the first two. I tried playing Arkham Origins right after finishing them, but the control scheme was completely different with no way to re-map it...it was awful; if I remember correctly, the triggers were reversed (so whatever L1 and L2 did in the first two games, R1 and R2 were responsible for that in Origins).

I really liked Pikmin 2. Never got around to the third one. The first one feels like a first installment.
