no
Disagreed
You disagree that it is generally accepted to be a about rape? You think most people think it's a rape song?

I think it's totally valid to interpret the song as a rape song. That makes sense. I was no-ing the idea that it's generally accepted as such.

I don't remember where I read/heard it, but I've had it in my head for a long time that the "Five" in question is Kelley, Stone, Jeff, Mike, and Dave and the "One" is Ed.

Animal is more of a character sketch than a song. Or just a...base emotion, I guess.

I don’t think the “Ed writes primarily about Ed” era really exists outside of Vitalogy/No Code.

2. It's just something picked up years ago and dirt of accepted as gospel. Have had it reinforced elsewhere, but the lyrics are otherwise ambiguous enough that i'd be happy to entertain other interpretations
It's 100% "torture."

dude could hit hard for sure and overused cymbals to death but hes overrated..he just happened to be their drummer while they were famous..
Despite Dave's reputation as a heavy-hitting monster drummer, where I really miss him is on songs like "Daughter" and "Elderly Woman" -- his tasteful hi-hat (I think) work on those songs is something no drummer since has replicated, to the detriment of later performances (even though the band as a whole has occasionally taken them to more interesting places).

The hand-wringing over the personal stuff with Dave is not something I identify with at all -- I wish these dudes the best, but more power to them if they don't want to turn their musical retrospectives into tell-all docu-dramas. I struggle to believe the guy was as singularly important to their success as has been suggested, and would imagine that -- musically speaking, anyway -- there's far less that the band "leaves out" of their history by not constantly feeling the need to bring up Dave than people seem to think.

I thought it was "Torch lit from you to me"

Passing the torch, a voice of a generation, etc.etc.

This is more possible and makes more sense than "touch her."

But it's still "torture."

Oh, i see why we are maybe on this debate (which is way more interesting than a dave a debate). The booklet says "torch her" and pj.com says "torture"

Its torch lit though.
