Unfortunately, this is not eligible for your team. This as part of the core Mario series. You already have Super Mario World on your team. Spinoff Mario games would be allowed (Mario Party, Paper Mario, Mario RPG, etc.) however.
Also, spin off games are allowed according to this post.

This is not a popularity contest, I just don't think it would be necessary to be such an anal cunt over something so minor. If you're in this to compete, rather than chill and talk about games we love, then you're off the mark anyway.

It's a pretty divisive subject in gaming circles. I personally don't consider it a core Mario game other than in the name. You don't really control Mario and the art style is different from all Mario games. It has way more mechanics in common with Yoshi games than Mario games.

I barely even post in GD. I play no favorites (other than against tree_).

Arguing that one of those is not a Mario game is the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

Not that it's not a "Mario game", but that it's not part of the core Mario series, and thus a spinoff. I think a case could be made that either one of those games is a spinoff.

Mario Kart is also a Mario game, but it's a spinoff. tree has it as part of his roster as well as SMB3. So should he re-pick?

If enough people have a problem with my SMM pick, I'll drop it and go with something else. I did expect it to be controversial
