For the record, I didn't comment much on your team. The only "bashing" I'd say is you went all-in on the Metrovania sub-genre. That could come back to bite you a bit. I can't complain about SMW. I love Halo 1. You have a good mobile Zelda.

Since the last pick must be mobile, I'm shocked that

Metal Gear Solid 2 & 5
Sonic 2 & 3
Fallout Series
Elder Scrolls Series
NBA 2K Series
Fifa Series
CoD Series

We're NOT chosen.

I feel like people stayed away from Fallout and Elder Scrolls because they tend to be "love 'em or hate 'em" games, and people might have been worried that others wouldn't have voted for them. I am a huge player of those games, so they would've gone a long way to getting my vote, but I understand why they went unpicked.

Other games that I might've thought about if I were picking:

Quake II
Dark Forces II
X-Wing or TIE Fighter
Minecraft

Surprised no one picked a Civilization game.

I love the 2k basketball series but it is hard to pick out a specific year that is the best. I guess 2k19?

If I were drafting and going to pick a sports game, I might go with High Baseball 2002, but I don't know how many people here would have played it.

No one picked any SSX, which means I’m not voting for any of you. Except MD since he picked Mass Effect 2.

Quake II really wasn't very good.

tragabigzanda wrote:(Before I make my final pick, I want the record to reflect that Battlefield 1 is my favorite game I've ever played, and I think it's certainly worthy of discussion amongst the GOAT. Incredible mechanics, aesthetics, sound design. Have put more hours into this game than any other. But I know there aren't a lot of players on RM, so I'm leaving it off my list...)

Final pick: Gabriel Knight, Sins of the Father (PC)
The premier Sierra adventure title. I was obsessed with Sierra Online as a kid, played every title I could get my hands on. I even wrote a fan letter to the company, and the CEO wrote me back telling me he hoped I could come work for them some day. But I missed Gabriel Knight during its initial release: It was one of the first titles to require a VGA monitor, and I was stuck with the EGA tech of my Tandy computer. I'd salivate over the box art for this one, imagining that it could somehow improve on the complex and satisfying murder mystery experience of The Colonel's Bequest, a criminally under-appreciated adventure game in its own right. I finally downloaded the game a couple years ago and played it on my Mac, and holy cow -- it still held my attention right up to the very end. Complex puzzles that never veered into the ridiculously unsolvable, genuinely spooky atmosphere, even some really good music despite the limitations of its era. This period/genre of PC adventure games doesn't get enough credit for the impact it had on today's gaming culture: Half-Life, Resident Evil, Red Dead Redemption -- none of that stuff would exist without the PC adventure catalog. Gabriel Knight is an exemplary title from a different era of gaming that required some real intellectual calisthenics (or perhaps a "hint book") to complete, and that delivered a narrative story that was deeply satisfying even years later. Adventure game fans often point to this title as the best in the genre, and for good reason.
We need to play Battlefield One again. I need to justify the space it is taking up on my hard drive.

Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate II also weren't picked.

Those were fun as hell.

I'm not even sucking up. I really like that game. The laser sword was the best.

I was so into that game when it came out. I was obsessed with downloading mods and user-made levels, and even got a level editor so I could build my own (never really got beyond making big rooms and hallways, but it was fun). I was only 13, and in another life I think I could've gotten into that business--even took a coding class in high school. But that fizzled out when I got interested in the humanities
