CopperTom

Round 1: The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Switch)
I've been playing video games for 33 years and this is the best game that I've ever played. The best entry of the best franchise.

Round 2: God of War (PS4)
Of the major AAA franchises, this one has largest gap between the best entry and the second best entry. This game exceeded my expectations in every way imaginable.

Round 3: Metal Gear Solid (PS1)
Arguably the best PS1 game. The only MGS with a great, non-ridiculous, and non-convoluted storyline. A game so great, it spawned an entire genre.

Round 4: Angry Birds (iOS)
Simple perfection. The game with highest user base of all time. I preferred it before the in-app purchases (except the Mighty Eagle since that added an additional element) though.

Round 5: World of Warcraft (PC)
The best MMO ever made. Accessible yet deep. Can level solo or group. Quests made sense. Worth the time investment and monthly fee. I assume this game has generated the most revenue all time, by far.

Round 6: Super Mario Bros. (NES)
Where it all started for me. I played it for the first time at a cousin's house. Jumping the first pit was a challenge. When I finally made it, I sprinted to tell my mom. When I finally beat 1-1, I sprinted to tell my mom. I got NES with SMB, Gyromite and Duck Hunt that Christmas. The rest is history.

Round 7: Tecmo Bowl (NES)
For a sports game to be fun to play years after release, it needs to be special. This is over 30 years old and still a blast. Oh, and Bo Jackson.

Round 8: Panzer Dragoon Saga (Saturn)
On the very short list of greatest game ever made. Too bad it was released in very limited quantities during the last days of a console that thoroughly lost its console war versus PS1. I realize no on RM has played this. Spend a minute a Google it for me. The value pick of value picks.

Round 9: Pikmin (GameCube)
A rare action / strategy game done right. Nintendo's best new IP of the past 15 years.

Round 10: Borderlands 2 (PS3)
A FPS that feels like a MMORPG. Total chaos, fun, and irreverence. A game that never takes itself even a bit too seriously. Borderlands 3 is overdue.

Jammer XCI

Pokemon Blue - (GBC)
It was really hard to pick between generations one anf two for a Pokemon game. Gold/Silver/Crystal are my favorites for actual game play for having 16 gyms, but I give the nod to Blue for kickstarting it all and also having tons of fun glitches and exploits. Getting level 100 Pokemon before the first gym is next level shit, then you have the Mew glitch, which through hexidecimal fuckery you can get any Pokemon you want to spawn. Plus the item cloning glitch to get 100+ master balls/rare candies/nuggets etc.

Why Blue over Red? Electabuzz, Scyther, Vileplume and Arcananine > their Red unique equivalents. The glitch I explained above renders it nil though.

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask - N64, 2000
This is actually my favorite game in the series, an unlikely choice but I really enjoy the speedrunning aspect of this game. It was extremely hard when I was a kid playing it at age 10 when it came out, but when I look back at the Zelda series this is the immediate standout for me.

Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (PS2)
This is in my opinion the best Metal Gear installment. Sons of Liberty and the first one were great games, but as a young teenager the anticipation for this game in the lead up to its release was massive.

I remember this came out at right about the same time as GTA San Andreas, but unlike that game, this one I stayed up all night and beat the story mode in one sitting. That part in the jail cell with the fake Game Over screen was a total mindfuck.

Shadow of the Colossus - PS3 (Preference for PS4)
Alright, I know the rule is HD remasters are supposed to be votes for the original game instead, but hear me out on this. The common consensus amongst the ICO fanbase (this game, ICO and The Last Guardian) is that the 2018 PS4 version is the definitive version of this game.

This game is visually fucking astonishing. This is hands down, the best looking game I’ve played in my entire life. Shadow of the Colossus carries a dark, lonesome vibe as you wander through a beautiful abandoned landscape. It’s a bit like a more mature, less cartoon-ish Zelda game (and this game definitely influenced the more recent Zelda games). And the vague, open ended story and conclusion is one of a kind.

Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back - PS1
This is my pick for best platforming game of all time. Suck a dick, wop plumber.

Sim City 2000 - PC
This is kind of a diversity hire to fill out the 4 platform quota (I’m obviously a heavy Playstation gamer), but this was one of the first video games I ever played. I didn’t really play it well as a kid, but I was weird and liked drawing architectual blueprints and road maps so my mom got me this. I still have a Playstation CD of this too, but I installed it on my laptop 4 years ago and play it every so often when I have nothing better to do.

Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec - PS2
When this came out it was the ultimate racing game and I probably spent hundreds of hours playing it. It was really hard to pick a racing game between this and Need For Speed’s Hot Pursuit 2 and Underground series, but I have to give the edge to Turismo.

Silent Hill - PS1
Someone already picked Resident Evil so I will be going with Silent Hill instead. This game scared the shit out of me when I played it at age 10 or 11 for the first time. The multiple endings was a really cool aspect for it’s time too.

And that will do it for me I guess. I almost picked Space Invaders, Frogger, Resident Evil 2 or Spyro the Dragon for this final turn, but my gut’s telling me Silent Hill is the way to go.

while CopperTom has a sound boxing game, with disciplined fundamentals, he is no match for Jammer's ground game

after 13 hard fought minutes on their feet, jammer successfully gets the jiu jitsu takedown he's looking for and subdues CopperTom like a boa constrictor on his prey for the W

I had more votes the last time I looked. At this pace, I'll be at 0 by lunch time. I hope that sex tape of mine where R.O.B. learns to give hand jobs didn't leak.

San Andreas and SC 2000 give Jammer the easy win for me. CT and I don’t have even remotely similar taste in games.

I've played 4 of the games on CT's team and only 2 on Jammer's team.

Metal Gear Solid is another one of my favorite franchise's and CT got the better installment. CT also has the OG Super Mario Bros. which is as good or better than SMB3. And he has Angry Birds which is one of only three mobile games I've ever played.

CopperTom
1. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Switch)
The best Zelda game. Probably the first true "open world" game. May have ruined previous Zelda games for me.
2. God of War (PS4)
A truly remarkable game. Will be tough to beat for GOTY. A fantastic one/two punch with the best two games of the generation.
3. Metal Gear Solid (PS1)
Have never played the original. Only the HD remaster. Enjoyed it, but liked 3-5 more.
4. Angry Birds (iOS, others)
Yeah, I played this too much. A shame they oversaturated the market with so many sequels.
5. World of Warcraft (PC)
6. Super Mario Bros. (NES)
Arguably the most important game ever released. They nailed it.
7. Tecmo Bowl (NES)
Top 5 sports game of all time. I like Tecmo Super Bowl more though. My dad used to play seasons and keep stats in a notebook for that one.
8. Panzer Dragoon Saga (Saturn)
9. Pikmin (GameCube)
A great idea and a fun game, but doesn't stay with me. Definitely a "B" Nintendo franchise.
10. Borderlands 2 (PS3)
Loved the art style. Could never quite get into it.

Jammer XCI
1. Pokemon Blue (GBC)
I have never played a Pokemon game.
2. Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (PS2)
Many many nights in college playing this, to the point of overheating my friends PS2. Haven't played it years.
3. The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask (N64)
Novel game. Like it more than Ocarina.
4. Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (PS2)
This and 5 are my favorites in the series. The jump back in time was much needed.
5. Shadow of the Colossus (PS2 or PS4?)
PS2 version is good. PS4 version is great.
6. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 (PS2)
Now you're talking. Played way too many hours of this with my buddies in high school.
7. Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back - (PS1)
Probably the best Crash game, but that's not saying much. Never cared much for this series.
8. Sim City 2000 (PC)
9. Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec (PS2)
10. Silent Hill (PS1)
Great final pick.

CopperTom with an easy win. The first two picks, Angry Birds, Mario Bros, and Tecmo Bowl make a fine collection of games.

CopperTom's team:
Haven't played BOTW, but i get it.

I'm skeptical of God of War. Have never played it, have watched vids, it looks like a brawler with some really slick graphics and SFX. i would likely get bored very early in the game. Inclined to say no.

MGS yes.

Angry Birds oh my god no.

WoW, sure I get it.

SMB yes.

Tecmo yes.

Panzeer & Pimkin, no experience with either.

Borderlands 2 no. I played the first one a bit and really did not like it.

4 yes, 1 maybe

Jammer's team:
Pokemon. I played the N64 one and loved it, and Pokemon Go! is one of the cooler game phenomenons I've ever seen, so sure.

GTA: Sure why not.

Major's Mask -- never played it, but I'm sure I'd love it.

MGS 3 -- I've never played this particular entry, but loved both the NES and PS4 originals, also enjoyed MGS2. I gave MGSV a chance for a couple weeks, and it felt a little too monotonous and overly technical. I'm inclined to say yes I would like this game.

SoC -- I've never played it  It's on my short list next time I'm ready for a longer narrative game, the PS4 version is perpetually $20. I'm sure it's worthy.

Tony Hawk 3 - Yeah, I played 1 & 2 before I stopped playing this series, but they were both a blast.

Crash Bandicoot -- jesus christ no, wtf jammer

Sim City 2000 - yeah i'll buy that

GT3 - ditto

Silent Hill - great closing pick, way better than the first (and only) few Resident Evil games I played

Five yes, four maybes.

Tough round for me, because there's a large number of games here I haven't had direct experience with. But overall, I'd be more excited to dive into Jammer's list.

Also, I recommend playing God of War trag. It has way more depth and strategy to the gameplay than it appears.
