You heard it, but it's not true. Rose Mallinger was the 97-year-old victim of the shooting, and she was initially reported to have been a Holocaust survivor, but it was later retracted. Seven of the eleven who were killed were alive during World War II, but none were captives the Nazis. However, there apparently was one man who arrived late to the synagogue who did escape the Holocaust, and thus also escaped the shooting. It's probably a confusion of all these facts that led to the initial claim.
