It's a numbers game, basically. There are way more Christians in the US than there are Muslims, and they have far more political power. While I do think, in this day and age, that Islam is the more dangerous ideology, it doesn't have enough traction in the US to be a comparable concern right now.

My boyfriend was in a small rural town here for a funeral this weekend and was harassed verbally and aggressively for four hours by evangelical Christians from the states cos he was gay. He’s no shrinking violet but it was so bad he was afraid to go to the hotel reception and ask for the management. Wtf they were doing here in a small town I don’t know but if a similar group of Muslims were travelling the country doing the same thing it’d make the fuckin papers.

Extremist Christians are easily more dangerous than their Muslim equivalent in this context.
