climate change is irrelevant.....its just cheaper and makes more sense to do it right.
Solar is not cheaper, but you know what is?

Pretty sure Thorium is an element from World of Warcracft.

But, MIT did put out a report stating that Geothermal energy has more potential than solar, wind, and tidal combined. Clean energy is the goal, or should be.

We've had climate change solved for decades, but we chose to use Uranium so that we could make weapons with that knowledge.

sounds legit, according to this guy...but the waste problem remains. If history is any guide, or the work of Nikola Tesla, there is a clean energy, with no limit, available to everyone. Tesla's work was intentionally sabotaged as profit was put over people. I believe the man in this video, who doens't provide much in the way of science in his lecture, is talking about fusion energy, which creates waste that remains for centuries. CLEAN energy, not only has it been done before but it works on a global scale, even an interplanetary scale. Coils on earth could fuel a habitat on the moon, mars, systems in Sirius A,B ...
There's plenty for all.

This plastic straw nonsense is everything wrong with the green movement in a turtle shell. So ridiculous.

Do any of you offset your carbon emissions when you fly, or do you feel guilty of flying?

I was discussing this yesterday with my friends, and some of them try to fly nowadays as little as possible. When they plan a trip they try to go only to places where they can drive or use the train or bus to get there. We were discussing about how there's a lot we can do as individuals, but that one of the reasons why it is so difficult to get any global policies in place is because the western leaders don't want to discuss about the questions of global inequality that the topic would also bring up.

I mean our way of living is kind of absurd if you think of how so many people on this planet live. We can fly around the world seeking pleasure and experiences, and we're surrounded by all this prosperity while the people in the poor south have to work in shitty conditions in a factory owned by some western company so that we can have cheap clothes and electronics. So their lives are in many ways harnessed to enable us to keep living the way we do.

But instead of discussing this and how it is also related to questions of global warming we seek the solution from technology. We have our faith in our engineers that they will come up with the necessary inventions that will enable us to continue living the way we do. But isn't the time kind of running out?

I don’t offset anything, but I buy American when I can (when we redid our kitchen we paid more for US made appliances) and only energy efficient lightbulbs and we are eliminating plastics from our kitchen.

I’m not green otherwise and still have some doubts about the claims of climate scientists, but like you I am highly confident we can beat this with tech, I just think we focus on the wrong areas. IMO, Eliminating offshore manufacturing and shipping is the single best thing we can do to fight climate change. And thorium reactors.

Actually I am kind of pessimistic about technology being the solution. Instead I think us living in the northern hemisphere should be ready to let go some of the material welfare we are so accustomed to, and also think if our current way of living is justified in a global context.

Us on the east coast probably don't realize how terrorizing a fire like that can be.
