I had the Beastie Boys book in my hand today waiting in line, but then chickened out. I didn't realize the cover price was $50. I'm rich, but not that rich.

That's a friggin' lot for a book. Amazon hs it for $30, or $15 if you want it on Kindle.

Yeah, I'm checking that now. I wanted to give my favorite bookstore my business because I've kind of strayed from supporting the little guys, but a $20 undercut in price is stupid to turn down.

Barbara Kingsolver is easily one of the best pure writers working today. I could totally understand someone not enjoying her chosen subject matter, but when it comes to crafting, when it comes to pure sentence structure, there's just very few as good. I am in awe of her ability.

I thought it was fine but not great. It felt meandering and didn't fully payoff for me. But you should give it a read. You might get more out of it. It certainly isn't bad. I have friends who claim it's their favorite Chabon. So...
