Bottom tier Coens is still pretty dang good. The music, setting and time period are all up my alley. I guess that's what makes it so compulsively re-watchable. For me it's a "the whole is less than the sum of its parts" thing.durdencommatyler wrote:Yet it's still bottom tier? That doesn't make any sense to me.guestT wrote:This is bottom tier Coens for me but if it's on I have to watch it. I've probably seen it more times than any of my favorite Coens.

My problem with it is mostly that I'm just not sure what I'm supposed to take away from it. It just seems kinda downbeat and cynical and aimless in a way that's not particularly interesting. Maybe I'll get something more from it someday.

That makes sense given your tastes. I totally get that. He gets way more likable on re-watch for me. I kinda love the guy now that I've seen it several times.tragabigzanda wrote:the uninteresting and unlikable lead character was my big problem with it

This is exactly how I feel about Lebowski.LoathedVermin72 wrote:My problem with it is mostly that I'm just not sure what I'm supposed to take away from it. It just seems [...] aimless in a way that's not particularly interesting.

I don’t find Lebowski to be any of those adjectives.

The main character was the cat. Watch the movie again with the cat Central and it makes sense.

"Llewyn is the cat" is literally one of the first pieces of dialogue in the whole movie
