Not trolling, just wondering what is about this song that makes it so great?
I hear repetive music with poetic lyrics. So, I guess not an awful song but wouldn't have been one to stop and say, "Wow, that's something!"

It's got bags of atmosphere. I'm guessing you've never night-swum in France to this song. Poetic lyrics are all part of the magic, for sure, but REM had a talent for melody which was pretty much unrivalled in rock bands.

Same with Everybody Hurts. I'm guessing you're just not inclined towards ballads, because these are two of the best.

Based on some of your posts, I have to ask, are you a self-hatin' PJ fan?verb_to_trust wrote:Oh don't you worry, you'll get it.....and there is no way in the world it will have anything in the same universe as Nightswimming.ItsOkay wrote:Possibly...just give me a new Pearl Jam album!

The part at the end of Nightswimming where the strings come in. THE PART AT THE END WHERE THE STRINGS COME IN.

I'll just throw this in...
The worst part about RVM live for me is that Ed hasn't sang the correct 1st chorus for about 18 years. He sings the second chorus twice and it bugs the crap out of me!
That, and the fact that for years now Ed starts singing a line of the song but moves away from the mic to focus on his guitar playing so we just get loads of half-lines.
I don't mind the jam, but the rest of the song is an outright mess these days. Studio version for the victory.

Do we know the reason he doesn't sing that line anymore?BootsToAsses wrote:I'll just throw this in...

Doesn't this happen with "In My Tree", too? He skips a line or two, right?Dr. Van Nostrand wrote:Do we know the reason he doesn't sing that line anymore?BootsToAsses wrote:I'll just throw this in...
