Superficial? Nah dude. I think to him, bands like PJ, Candlebox, and STP represented a watered-down, falsified, corporate commodity. I mean, wouldn't you resent those bands too if you helped grow and build a healthy network of underground artists? Nirvana was a part of that scene, along with Melvins, Fugazi, Sonic Youth etc. Pearl Jam, Candlebox, and STP were not. So from someone from SA's perspective is right in saying fuck these corporatized rockbands handpicked and groomed for success by office scumbags.Kevin Davis wrote:What does he even mean, "mimicking underground culture" and "cash in crowd?"Birds in Hell wrote:It's not like he's entirely wrong.verb_to_trust wrote:Albini on Pearl Jam: "mimicking underground culture" "cash in crowd" Uses them in the same sentence as "Cadlebox" and "Stone Temple Fuckheads"

I can see it being the sort of thing that would be really important to someone in their early 20's; it seems like kind of a pathetic torch for a 50 year-old guy to be carrying some 20 years later. Ultimately, superficial is exactly what it is, because it has nothing to do with music and everything to do with who belonged to what clique 20 years ago.super nintendo chalmers wrote:Superficial? Perhaps, but its not like Candlebox and STP's music are worthy of respect. And yeah, if I was 50 year old dude who only listened to the records and supported the bands, the view might be alittle short sighted. But from someone who was there and devoted their life the advancement of the art, its not surprising they wouldn't give a limp fuck about those hacks.Kevin Davis wrote:I can see it being the sort of thing that would be really important to someone in their early 20's; it seems like kind of a pathetic torch for a 50 year-old guy to be carrying some 20 years later. Interesting though. I would agree with this assuming you mean its a strong track that is a bit under the radar in the Nirvana catalogue as far as recognition goes.ridleybradout wrote:Man, I love that song. Thanks! If they didn't charge right away, I would preorder it there. I might wait until the middle of next month to pull the trigger (they usually do 11% off right around the 11th of each month, too).tk wrote:Soundstage direct.super nintendo chalmers wrote:Yeah? Thanks for the link - that was a great read.

Yeah, very nice. I was impressed by how much extra venom there is in Albini's mix of "Heart Shaped Box"--those guitars in the chorus roar to twice the effect.

I really liked that 'Forgotten Tune'. It was interesting hearing a riff from 1988 which had that Bleach/Incesticide vibe being worked on by the band in 1993.
I can't wait for this!
